  • how do you get more throttle

I got my SC running and driving today but it seems like you can not get enough throttle to get her up to fast speed you run out of handle what can be done?

Look at the throw on your bell crank at the carburetor and see if it is moving all the way when you move the throttle.

Mike I think he's running a Mikuni if so there will be no bell crank.

yes a mikuni vm34 with the throttle handle all the way down you can still walk to the rear and pull up more than half on the carb I tried adjusting the cable with out much luck seems like the stock handle does not have enough travel

The Superchief had a Mikuni 30mm as original equipment, so the distance the throttle lever pulls the cable may well be insufficient. Levers from PWCs work well and you can usually pick them up fairly cheap on ebay. There may be some mods you need to make to the end of the cable or new lever to make it work. Good Luck!

If you're talking about the needle jet, this won't work. The clip on the needle jet controls the air to fuel ratio at about the 1/4 to 3/4 throttle positions. Raising or lowering the needle changes the amount of fuel that passes by the needle at a given air flow (which is determined by how far open the throttle slide is). Raising the needle and letting more fuel past just richens the mixture, it doesn't give you "more throttle".

I guess a new throttle with more travel is in order for max speed. I also wanted to thank you guys for the tips for this newbie

                      LD,

I ran into a similar issue when installing Mikunis on my last engine. You want to make sure that the throttle cable not stretched too much. There might be an adjustment at the hand lever to take out some of the slack if there is. I read somewhere that the adjustment on the carb should be used only for fine tuning the slide to sync dual carb set ups which makes sense. If you can't get all the slack out then you might need a new cable or get an in-line adjuster installed. I need to do this on my current set up. After all that if you still cannot get full actuation on the throttle slide you'll need to get a lever like Don recommends.
