Many older machines run #40 drive chain, which doesn't have the strength that #50 or #520 does, which is utilized in more modern machines. #40 chain still holds up fine, (do a forum search for the McKay racer) but when it IS abused or installed/maintained incorrectly, it's more apt to develop issues than the stronger counterparts. Your Chief will have #50 drive chain as standard equipment. When properly installed/aligned/maintained, you won't have any issues.

Hmmm that may work...what'd ya look up? Just plastics companies or what? Id love to find somewhere close and of course cheap too. I don't mind paying money for it cuz obviously its a big benefactor of doing, but if a workin man can save a few pennnies then hell, why not!!

Installed a New battery, replaced fuel filters, Cleaned carb, checked chains, i need to grease it up a little bit. put in some fresh fuel, Primed the pump N carb and then let the smoke fly. it runs great! i had to tinker with the fuel screw but i got it for now...

I AM MISSING TWO PARTS THAT I DO NEED THOUGH: the rubber snorkel that attatches the carb to the air box thingy...anyone have one? or thoughts on how i should go about attatching it? i wanna make it professional looking. Or should i just put a differnt air filter on it all together? ALSO, one of the rubber plugs for the body.

HYDROMIKE:40 mph skidsteer of death buddy...holy balls! lol Talk about turnin way to fast! lol now i see why you build cages..i think imma need one myself! lol and screw the bench seat, i think my racing buckets are gettin framed in and bolted down! Yikes! Also, i need to locate a manual. i wanna check trans fluid and would like to know how to properly go about doing this.

Something else i need to investigate...no parking break!?!?..i mean its got the red brake pedal, and they work, but cmon..no lock?! how am i supposed to jump out n pick up all the **** i lost as i whipped a 180 turn at 30mph?

oh well, things to investigate! thats for sure! lol anyhow, happy ending to an un easy beginning i guess? Woot! Thumps up for new toys!

Check out Hydromike's Cheif. He has a really good idea for a winch mount. It fits the machine's style very well I'd say.

Heck ya! That guy does good work! lol i like the "Stinger" style bumper look, very fitting! As he stated in the picture caption, should be interesting on how he attatches it to the frame. As far as i kno, i didnt see any metal up under the dash anywhere?..Maybe ill investigate that today..

Thanks for the plug JP. I never actually ended up attaching the winch to the frame at all. The body band holds the winch just fine, and I've pulled myself out several times with it.

I'm not a professional therapist, but I do hold several degrees in recreational education. My advice? You seem to like speed, so yank the engine cover and the floor pan out of the Chief, bolt in a bucket seat and build a roll cage. They make fun racers.

See you at Ashtabula. At this point, you're going to need a trail machine as well. Get another Chief and shoehorn in as big a thumper as you can find. Winch/skidplate/ 24-25" tires.... you'll love both worlds.

Oh... no parking brake. You can rig one up with the style of brake system you have, though. It just locks the brake pedel down.

you will quickly learn to work around not having a parking brake. I just turn the machine 90 degrees to the hill. these machines have enough rolling resistance that they will usually stay put if you get them even reasonably close to level.

to back up what hydromike said. all of my winches are mounted to a full angle iron body band. only one of the machines has the body band tied into the frame. my attex trail machine has pulled out the big 8x8 argos and the winch mounting was a non issue

I do like to go fast, dont get me wrong. Although, i'm more of a trails, woods, mud/water kinda guy. i own a mule, so fast aint exactly something im used to. I do like to putt, climb, slop around, and slide over rocks (which im avoiding till the hdpe gets here) my next idea is a 4cycle engine, so i can do all the putt-ing i want without worrys of cooking the rockwell.

to back up what hydromike said. all of my winches are mounted to a full angle iron body band.
So..does the band wrap the ENTIRE BODY? like from front to back etc etc, or just around the front nose piece? i just came in from checkin out my metal pile (not enough 1x1 angle to do any side of it..lol...oops...used it elsewhere as usual..) although i did find a few small pieces and i was eyeing them up, and quite frankly, they'll look good! Then ill have to put a plate on thurrrr and bend me a hoop for the front.

I was also thinking, if i do the full body lip wrap-around, i think maybe a "Oh-****,Dang!" handle may end up crossing over from one side to the next! lol for the passengers. or hell, if i go that route, i may as well do some type of overhead setup? just for keepin brush back n catchin spider webs on the way through. Sure, it wont be a cage connected to frame, but im sure it'll stop a little bit of stuff. haha.

usually the bands go all the way around. I think it's by far the strongest way to do it, or fab inside framework like Hmike did on his Bigfoot.

You do eventually learn to work without a park brake, but they're pretty easy to make on an Attex. Here's a couple pics of the Li'ltruck Diesel with a home made set. That's a push arm from a caulking gun, and I did finally have to mount a roller under the arm to keep it from bending, but it works like a champ now. (captions are backwards on the pics- on is off)
