Quick question for you skid plate owner/builders: The center ridge, the one that gives ya the extra 1-2 inches in the center, is it truly needed? i was layin on the ground today lookin at the hogg and wandering if i would miss it if i was to simly "Skid plate" over it rather than try to form it and keep it in use.. it'd make things a heck of a lot easier i'd say?
PS: Ordered 1/4" Black HDPE today, shipped to house 154 dollars. Also ordered Sealed Rivits as well, 100ct was 20 bucks. SOOOOON.....i will have a trail/rock/EVERYTHING worthy machine! Woot! im pumped! lol

Take the time and form it so it's as snug as possible to every last little bend in the bottom of the tub. It'll take quite a bit of effort and time, but the goal of the skid plate isn't just to stop rocks and other things from damaging your tub. It ads a whole-new level of rigidity to the bottom of the machine. Aside from the ground clearance, if you just take the short route and rivet a giant flat plate to the bottom of the machine, you might as well strap on a big dozer blade to the front as well. You'll hit every single obstacle imaginable with it, and it'll likely be wripped off in a matter of hours on the trail.
Wrap the plate up the front as far as you can, and do the same with the rear. It's an insurance policy, and if done correctly will help your machine more than you can imagine. There are a few of us that've done it, so if you hit any road-blocks and need some advice on how to start wrapping it around, send a shout out and we'll see if we can help you...sigpic
