i have been useing the 2000lb wired remote from harbor freight for years now on my max 2 and have had no problems at all the only dislike i have is the size of the big goofey looking yellow controler and extra wireing what i ended up doing was mounting a spare belt holder clip under the dash on the right side of the upper body it holds it perfictly and has never fallen out (and i ride quite agressive) when i use it i can un clip it and have 4 ft range with the wires and when im done the wires tuck into the space next to the seat where the upper and lower meet..... wireless remotes are nice but they do have their issues!

I have the same 2000lb Harbor Freight winch on my Max II that MadMax500cc has and I have to say that the few times that I did have to use it, I worked it pretty hard and it never gave up on me. It is a very tough unit. On some very steep inclines where there is water at the bottom like entering a large ditch or creek, I submerged the winch a few times and I must say that it is sealed very well and it never stopped working for me.
As far as the remote control 3000lb winch goes, I got a Harbor Freight sales flyer and they had a coupon for it for $59.99. I have heard mixed reviews about it, and I have also heard from those who have bought it, the delay in the on/off selection when you're using it. That is what turned me off to it. I know Harbor Freight sells another 3000lb unit that has a wired remote, just like the 2000lb unit that is sometimes on sale for $89.99."Looks like you have a problem with your 4 wheeler........you're missin' two wheels there"

Maybe I got a bad one?Finding out that these machines are never actually "finished"

I have submerged a few over the past couple of days. We are flooded in my area and I have been pushing and pulling trees and logs that have ended up in my yard. I am using several machines with Warn, Viper, and harbor Freight winches. All have worked fine and not died. The viper did get hot and melted some of the rope.
I use amsteel in all of them for the safety reasons mentioned. It won't fly back if it breaks or comes unhooked, doesn't have wires that can stick a person. The winch not shutting off could be a huge problem if a person gets their fingers into the spool. With the wireless remote I can be away from the machine. I have not noticed a delay but I bet it would be a pain when using a plow. Pulling to get unstuck would seem like a minor issue.
