It's funny, I came back to this sport to stop spending so much money.
I've got about $50,000 in my jeep,and probably about 30 in my Barracuda, and I've lost interest in racing. so $12,000 seems high but maybe not so high, I think you're right if people would just think about what they are getting for that money, and how long it will last with a little care.

What year Barracuda do you have? I would like to see some pics. My dad had 1972 with a 340 for 22 years.

It's a 69, 507 stroker motor, back halfed, 17x33 goodyears, it's runs 9.40's.

But with gas for the truck pulling a 26' enclosed trailer,racing gas, and entry fees, it was costing about 110 dollars per weekend to race.
If your lucky to win say once every other month, you get back about 2 to 3 weekends worth. Cost didn't eqaul enjoyment any more. Now it sets in the back of the garage with the Jeep.
