  • chaine lube

Last week I had to pull my motor out of my machine to change the starter. While I was in there, I did any maintenance that needed to be done. My question here is there a chain lube that's better than any other. I use motor oil now. I have used a spray in the past.

Bad thing about motor oil is its so messy. Im not picky on what brand of chain lube i buy as long as it is ok for oring chain.

It is messy. I just degreased everything and I feel that I have defeated the purpose.

I've used Chain Wax for many years on my MotoCross Bike. Seems ok on my Max II.

I go to the Bulk Plant and buy a 5gal pail of Esso Milcot 220 Oil, and paint it on my chains with a paint brush. Works just fine, it has "anti-slinging" agents in it to keep it on the chains, it's water resistant, and it's cheap/easy to get.

I ride a bunch in the sandhills of Nebraska. Very fine sand. Any wet lube would be caked in sand in no time. I use a teflon wax.

I use Maxima chain wax. It comes in a black and gold spray can. Spray it on a warm chain, and then let it sit up for a while. This stuff does'nt sling off and works pretty good too. You can buy it at almost any motor cycle shop.

Chain lube is what I would recommend, the names with you guys will be different but over here, chain and wire lube works a treat.

Thick oil etc does not get into rollers therefore, is not really fully lubricating the chain. The thin lube will displace water and lubricate at the same time. The thick oil will lubricate between the roller and sprocket, however it does not penetrate into the most important part and it does also pick up dirt easily.

I jack my machines up and use 4 - 6 cans of spray making sure the machine is just over tick over speed. I will then run it for a few minutes up and down road and then re lube the chains
