  • What is the badest 6X6 made? Is it the Bigfoot?

So I am hooked on 6X6's. 4X4 just wont cut it and 8X8 is too big. I don't mind the "top speed" of AATVs as most places I ride will not allow high speeds anyway. What I DO miss about ATV's is ground clearance...I saw 26's on what I think was a Bigfoot. Is this the 6X6 that allows the tallest tires with the stock-ish setup? Thanks, Steve

27's will fit on a Hustler 980 BIGFOOT. And it's one of my favorite AATVs. They're getting harder to find, but if you come across one, grab it ASAP. They're a blast!

There are several machines that fit the 26's including #4 on the list: the super swamp fox hydromike has, #3 newt the bold also in his collection, #2 a Max IV which is easier to find but decked out like admin Mike's makes a for a sick 6x6, and topping the charts is the hustler 980 Bigfoot sported by such members as hydromike, racerone3, fmints, don, and jpswift1.

You will get a lot of different opinions on this question. My choice for what I do is MAXs buffalo truck with the 26x12 terra tires. Hauls a bunch of gear and will go places humans can't walk. I don't enjoy swimming in a truck because it just isn't a boat. I've been known to carry my 220 4 wheeler in the bed for the good trails, it's like a big spare. Fuel use is very low, takes a very long day to use 5 gallons.

Ah yes, can't forget the Max Buffalo Truck. That's the one machine that's on my wish list that still isn't in my fleet (as of yet).

I am pretty happy (for now) with the 16hp Vangaurd but are there any easy performance mods that are cheap-ish and do not affect reliability?

That's Mike's Max IV with 26x13x12 Vampire ASX tires.

Get a 23HP Vanguard if you want lots of power and excellent reliability. Or get a Max IV and put some 26" Vampire ASXs on it when they come out again next month and put a 23HP Vanguard and you'll have the best of both worlds.

Also, I am not to in to sucking fumes ( I will save my lungs for better pollutants) and I noticed that some have the motor IN FRONT of the driver, I would like to avoid this if possible. Is it certain brands (like ARGO?) or just models that have that setup?

Argo and Terra Tiger are two that I can think of off the top of my head. I'm not a fan of this configuration myself.

Yeah the way I look at it, take an ATV and add 2 wheels...GREAT plan! Take a "boat" and put the motor up front....not so much. Aside from the fume issue.

OK, I am hijacking my OWN thread now (a first?)! How do I get the inner axel bearings out from under the motor and trans? Thanks again yall! Steve

Pull the engine if you have to, it'll make the job easier. It's not difficult to pull it out.

A how-to article detailing how to replace the engine in your Max II or any other amphibious ATV. It's a pretty straight forward process so you should be ready to go six wheeling again very quickly!
