  • MaxIV or Attex?

I am looking at these two machines they are very close in price the attex is closer but that isn't a huge factory the max is close enough
The max has a 20hp kohler and the attex has been repowered with a duromax 16hp I know there are good and bad points with both I am not that concerened with swiming but the lawn more tires on the attex makes me wonder if it would do as well in the mud and sandy banks I am gonna want it to climb out of

I'm a big Attex fan but I think the Max IV is the way to go.

Choose the Max IV ! Later model machine, has good better balance than the shorter Attex, can carry 4 passengers , you can install suspension seats in it for the front and for the rear passenger , or make the stock front bench seat and rear bench seat into a suspension seat. When you remove the seats on a Max IV it's so easy to work on and make modifications. If you like to hunt, you can remove the rear seat and build a plywood box for your dog to sit in or carry lots of equipment and tools there. Over all , the Max IV is a lot more bang for the buck, and it will also hold a higher resale value too over the Attex. You also have lots of tire options with a Max IV which you don't have with an Attex. Unless you plan on making a racer out of the Attex, the Max IV make a lot more capable trail machine. When it comes to ground clearance , the Max IV will also beat an Attex in the mud.

Go for the Max all the way. An Attex with lawnmower tires and Duromax engine doesn't sound like it was set up correctly at all. Whoever is selling the Attex for as much as that Max IV is dreaming. Go grab that Max IV, you'll be VERY happy with it.

That Attex you describe for $2000 with the wrong tires and engine sounds like way, way too much money. Also, there were no Attex models that came with a 12HP Briggs, but the Attex 208TT did come with an 8HP Briggs.

That Attex looks like a poly bodied 3rd gen machine ( at least the nose cover) , the knobbies are what they are and will not swim but may be ok in the mud.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
                    Joe Camel never does that.

Joe is right on. It's a 1973-75 ABS body Attex. This machine is painted, has the wrong tires, and it's been for sale for quite a while, so that certainly says something. I'd most certainly avoid this one because you don't know what other surprises are going on with it.

Probably right, and it is overpriced by a lot. Not only does it have the el cheapo engine, but being painted and abs is far harder to correct if it were poly. None the less, the poly is more desirable.

What are you going to be doing with it? That is the biggest factor. If your hunting and taking friends and gear Max IV. Going to trick it out and race then there's probably more speed to be gained in the attex. How you are going to use it and your personal preference is the biggest thing

Well I have found another max iv but it has a Honda 18hp and supposedly new bearings and sprockets its an older machine and doesn't have splined axles though the guy said he repainted the frame as well I also found a argo 8x8 vanguard with a 18hp in it looks to be in decent shape it's a lot further away than the max but a little cheaper not having a low range worries me a little about the t20 machines but a big ole 8x8 is prolly not as trail friendly as a max iv it sure would be easier to mount my trolley motor on though
