hi everybody this is my first post been around here for a while looking but never posted. today it hit me hard. just wondering how the tires are powered and what powers them. i know it has a motor of choice but i was thinking like transmissions and hydro pumps. just wondering if lawn mowers like the zero turn would work. would you have to have 4,6 or 8 like pumps or what. like to see pics on how they work and how they are set up and would it be best to have all those trans per tire or have it set up to run off of sprockets. i dont own one but just wondering how they work and what way is the best. could you use vertical shaft engines or do they have to be horizontal. just trying to learn more. thanks for any info and pics.

Amphibs are powered in many different ways, and each brand does it a little differently. To go with the big 3 that are still produced: Argo and Max run a horizontal shaft motor, cvt clutches to a trans, then chain and sprockets to each wheel. Mudd-ox uses a hydraulic pump and industrial motors along with chain and sprockets. A zero turn mower's components could be used, but they are much lighter duty and precautions would need to be taken. The machine would need to be kept as light as possible and not sped up. Most people just wouldn't be happy with a top speed of 6-8mph.

just never knew how they worked or how you could get a vertical to work. thanks for shedding some light. guess if you was going vertical you would need the one with the three shafts coming out or not. plus i was wondering after i saw that set up for the right angle gearbox and vertical engine if it would cut back on some of the performance and power. thanks again for taking time out to help.
