I leased out 6 Army Mules, M-274-A2s to the Studios. They spent alot of time on the Beach in Malibu. Years later I had a business in San Luis Obispo County with a sideline of selling Max Vehicles. We ran the Maxs mostly at Pismo Beach. YOU DO NOT WANT TO GET YOUR VEHICLE IN OR EVEN NEAR SALT WATER. PERIOD!!! No amount of garden hose water or even car wash power sprayer will ever get all of the salt out of your toy. In just minutes you'll have a 1,000 lb battery corroding on your trailer. I know i just signed on today as a newbie but I have years of experience and thousands of dollars worth of damage receipts i had to make good on. WTTW.

I agree with you...it is rough. But the salt marsh is pretty much the only place the Hustler goes during hunting season....a good wash and WD-40 after each trip seems to keep the rust at bay a little. You can actually WATCH your gun rust if you haven't oiled it goodHammers should have warning labels.

that's the one thing you can count on:
steel rusts.
it's just how you handle it.......prepare for, and, deal with.....
It's always a fine line between using things and having fun, and, wearing out/damaging them doing same.......
That salt water, direct or just living near it, can be a bugger, for sure.
to bad there's not something to spray on, like vinegar or something, that would neutralize the salt......

Hey yg,
How ya' been?? The Gulf Coast ain't too pretty, but if you are a hunter/fisherman, it is a great place to be. The Louisiana guys all keep silicone impregnated cloths and wipe their guns down good before and after a hunt. Seems to work well...WD-40 on a firearm is a no-no in most situations IMO. Don't know how the silicone idea could translate to amphibs though...I was thinking about cleaning my tires really good and dousing them with silicone tire dressing to see if it made the post-mud cleanup easier?? Maybe spray down my axles while I am at it. I painted them, but the paint does not seem to hold up.Hammers should have warning labels.

Hey rdr,
I'll start looking for some Remington gun oil and pick some up....when I go out in the marsh I usually take my Mossberg, then if I have to use it for a crutch or something I would not be upset!
BTW, have you seen that green grease?? It is synthetic and supposed to be waterproof....I have been using that on all axle bearings...I don't have an opinion yet, not enough time with it. Just wondered if you did. I have seen it at Advanced Auto and Pepboys...Also, some day you need to share your thoughts on cooking pork...Me and Meinfeld have been talking about BBQ lately. As you know, us Tx boys like our beef...you and Meinfeld's area pretty much have the title on pork.Hammers should have warning labels.

I've been a gun-nut for many years now.......
An old timer told me, and, it has proven true, in my experience anyway.......
Automotive engine oil is the ticket, and, cheap.
It's formulated to do exactly what we want, for guns anyway....
cling to metal surfaces, displace moisture, lubricate, hold up to high heat and pressure, etc, etc.......
I've used it for many years with great results.
Not that any of the "gun oils" didn't work, I just like simple and cheap......
I use multi-grade.
just a random thought.

I have a question with the water proof grease. I have never bought any because it seems like a scam. Isn't all grease water proof?Anything petroleum based should repel water? Maybe there is something else I'm not thinking of involved but I just thought it was a was of money.
