Good afternoon all. Mike from MI here. In the late 60's my dad sold Amphicats as a part time deal in NW PA. I was barely 11 but I loved driving those little tanks. It's fun poking around this site and someday I may buy a 6x6 just to relive my youth! It would tempting to resurrect an old Amphicat but a lot would depend on how much work needed to be done.

Just rebuilt my T 20 I can go backwards but it wouldn’t go forward. I’m thinking I don’t have the diamond shifters far enough in case but I’m not sure can anyone help please. Thank you.

Switch the diamond shifters from side to side.

Welcome to the site Greenlee. The depth of the diamond shifter shouldn't be your problem. If it will shift from neutral to reverse then it should also shift from neutral to forward. Are you sure the bands are adjusted correctly?

Hi all Im a licences mechanic had dirt bikes quads and boats all my life and just recently purchased my first Argo its a 2005 8x8 avenger 700 so far it’s been a good unit I’ve only put on a couple hour on it. It has tracks and a canvass cab. Seems to have a lot of fumes inside so I have to figure that part out. Anyhow I’m looking forward to chatting with you all here cheers

Hey Im Zack. From Orange Heights, Fl. Im 43 and have only ever seen a 6x6 or 8x8 a few times in my life, besides owning a Scrambler for a short time. Ive always been into 3 wheelers, dirtbikes, 4 wheelers, and lifted side by sides. Ive always been interested in the 6x6s and 8x8s, but I think they are more of a northern thing than a southern thing, so Ive never spent any time around one. Ive watched tons of videos and Im trying to learn about the drivetrain, etc. Ive been studying up on the T20 transmission vs. other transmissions and from the outside looking in, I think if I ever get a machine, I want to get one with the T20. I love the simplicity and reliability of the sideshaft engines in them. Im in the process of selling my sxs and Im seriously contemplating getting a 6x6, but I have more studying to do. One thing that bothers me about the 6x6s and 8x8s is the lack of ground clearance, and the fact that they are made with the tires too close together and the fenderwells to small to put bigger tires on them. Nowadays in mud parks a 35" tire is about average. I took my 35s off of my sxs and put it back on 30s to sell it, and its small now. I can picture getting high centered all the time on the trails if I had a 6x6. I had an old Scrambler a few years back I traded an old sandrail for and it ended up being a headache. I gave it away to my wifes cousin. If I get one its definitely going to be a few steps up from a Scrambler. No offense to any Scrambler owners on here. I think this is a great website and a lot of the things I have been researching on the internet have been in one way or another linked to this website, so I figured I might as well join. Well, sorry for being longwinded, I just wanted to say hello from Orange Heights, Fl. and I hope everybody is doing well and I look forward to lurking around this website and learning from yall. Who knows, I may be sharing pics of a 6x6 I buy one of these days. Have a good one!

Hello my fellow 6 wheeler fans. I'm brand new to this world but I am really excited about it. I just became the owner of a '79 or '80 Amphicat that was abandoned mid repair/restoration by it's previous owner. It is in need of a lot of work, but I am looking forward to the challenge. I'm going to be leaning on this group for guidance, insights and the occasional pep talk when I get discouraged. I've started the process of getting the machine back to it's former glory is disassembly and a thorough cleaning. I am not going for a perfect restoration as the previous owner had already replaced the original engine with a relatively new Briggs & Stratton Vanguard 16hp V-twin. Given this, I have decided to bite the bullet and make the switch to modern AATV tires. One of the original Firestone balloon tires was badly damaged when the previous owner's son struck a tree stump. The other 5 are in excellent condition and I have offered them for sale on Ebay to help offset repair costs. If you're a restoration diehard, I encourage you to check out my offering. Beyond that, I will be posting regular updates to my Amphicat journey. Thanks all!!

Welcome skeeterdeeter, have fun with the build as fresh is always the best start. Once you get it done put some time on it and get familiar with it, hauling out a moose with a manual brake 8x8 could be a chore.

Hi, Skeeter here. New member. I just bought a 1987 Argo HTB. I’m tearing it down to the frame and building it back up good as new and having a blast. It should be ready for moose hunting this fall. This forum has been a great help so thanks to everyone.
