      • Hello everyone, I am new to the whole forum thing as well as argos. With that being said I am sure you can imagine I am going to have a whole lot of questions that I hope the good people of this forum may have answers to or ideas anyway. I recently acquired a 1989 Argo 8x8 it cane with an 18 Kohler but was replaced with a 17 Kohler. I have only had it for a few days now and I am looking to get it into tip top condition. My first and most important question for now or problem I should say is as follows... When I turn with the Argo it doesn't turn very well even on gravel or grass also when I do turn it makes a lot of clunking noise that sounds like it may be coming from the pads that push down on the chains? I'm not sure if this is because maybe I need new chains or what the case may be, I'm not scared to spend money on the thing but I don't want to start buying parts that I don't need either which I am sure everyone here can appreciate. Also I know I could take it to the local dealer for servicing but then again I know basically nothing about the machine and I cannot learn by paying the dealer to fix it every time something goes wrong. Which I understand will be quite often. I look forward to hearing the input of everyone on this issue and thank you in advance. P.S I live in northern Ontario.

          • I am new to 8 wheelers i just got a 2004 argo conquest. I am replacing what needs to be replaced, having trouble getting idler shaft off of right side. The manual says once its loose it should slide in towards the inside of the machine it wont budge. Is it just seized in. Or is there a trick to it thanks.

            • Hi Dave, welcome to the forum. For your tech question, try starting a new thread in the Argo forum. If you haven't already, you may have to completely remove the four nuts/bolts on each of the bearing flanges to help create a little more play in the system while you try to remove the intermediate shaft.

                  • Hello all.

My name is Pete. I just bought a 1995 MAX IV. I'm new to 6x6. I live in MA. The 6x6 runs pretty good, but the trans and linkage definately needs some attention.

Looking forward to hitting the trails in NH and MA

                    Pete

                      • Nice. I'm in Andover so were close. What year Max II do you have? I definately could use some insite on how to clear up this linkage problem, as I believe the t-20 is ok.

                        • Hey everyone My name is Jason and I live in eastern NY. Ive always wanted a 6x6 and finally came across what seems to be a 98 max IV. The engine and seats were out of it for a good cleaning and throttle cable replacement. Sat for 2 years and I bought it in a basket on the cheap.

                          • Welcome Jason, repairs and assembly are the best way to learn these machines, while it's apart if you can afford it now is the time to refresh the driveline bearings and chains to start out trouble free. Was that the machine on Binghamton craigslist ?

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.

                              • Hello,
My name is Eric, I've never owned a 6X6 before and know very little about them. I posted earlier about a MAX IV I bought in Ohio (without really knowing what to look for) while I was visiting family. I live in Raleigh NC, just moved from Rock Hill, SC I found a better job I couldn't say no to. The serial #5474 but I don't know year either, I guess a call to RI and I can find out. I've got lots of pics, I just can't figure how to upload them yet. I have already taken it completely apart and found many problems, but that is for another post.
