  • Hi, I'm BearClaw. My brother in law and I bought a 1999 Argo Bigfoot 6x6 a couple of months ago. After having a little routine maintenance done on the Argo, I decided to try it out on the pond on the family farm. Being the first time in the Argo on water I decided to take the cell phone out of my pocket in the event I got wet. I got to the middle of the pond and couldn't get the Argo to go anywhere. It mostly spun the tires and churned up all the stinky stuff on the bottom of the pond. I really didn't want to swim in the pond after stirring up all the crap on the bottom, but was beginning to think I had no other choice. So there I was in the middle of the pond, no cell phone, no one knowing where I was, and the Argo just spinning the tires and going nowhere. Finally, after about 1/2 hour I got it to move maybe 10 feet toward the bank where it grabbed the bottom of the pond and climbed onto the bank.

What I want to know. Is there some trick to getting the Argo 6x6 to swim the max 3 miles per hour it is suppose to travel in water? I'm willing to try again, but this time I'll take a paddle with me.

    • It sounds like you have tires on it that don't swim. The tires are what move the machine in the water, some tires are great swimmers, but most quad tires aren't and I'm guessing that's what someone put on there if it didn't swim. OR the tires could be facing the wrong way. If the "V" treads are facing forward, like on a tractor for example, they won't swim, but if you flip them around so they look like they're backwards they will swim.

        • Hi Cupra225, welcome to the forum. For tires, read through the tire forum some and see what others are using. If you aren't going to be in the water at all then that really opens up your choices. Start a new thread in the tire forum if you need some more input.

                            • Hi bensonite, welcome to the forum. It's got to feel good to be so close to getting the initial maintenance/repairs completed on your machine. Then you can get out an enjoy it.

                              • Hi everyone I am a new 6x6 owner and I live in Gilroy Ca. I have never driven one until yesterday and what a fun new toy. I just bought a Max Buffalo for $2700 and it is in really nice shape and runs great, I don't know what year it is or how to tell yet but its so clean it looks newer. I can tell the chains are all loose, so I will need to do some research on them. So you all will be hearing from me soon with all my how do I fix or adjust this questions.
                                Thanks Buffalochuck
