Well hello everybody I have always wanted an Argo or similar. I finally was able to swing purchasing one and am happy to join this site. I have a little bit of input about swimming with tracks .I have the 18 inch plastic tracks with the metal snow cleats that extend them out wider. I tried to swim with them and it really can’t go anywhere I tried moving the tracks very slowly and fast neither really worked that well. Funny enough forward wanted to move me backward and visa versa, just at a snails pace. Luckily I had enough fore thought to bring a 2 x 4 as an oar just in case and I used the heck out of it to get back to Shore. The thing I noticed is the large cleats pull so much water over the track even at a slow speed that it is counterproductive to getting anywhere because the front of the track is pushing you backward as the bottom is trying to pull you forward. If the machine sat higher out of the water so just the bottom of the track could propel you I think it would do much better. Now I know that water crossings are not really possible with these tracks on unless I get a motor on the back. I will have to mount an electric motor on there because I really want to be able to use it in the winter time in the snow and still do water crossings because of the train near my house. That is the whole reason that I purchased this machine. I was a bit surprised to find I could not really go anywhere. I really only brought the 2 x 4 in case my engine should die.

Hi Rotorav8r....
Try reposting your question/issues under either the ARGO or TRACKS forums.
When in the water the top of tracks should not be under water when at a stand still. If that is the case, I.E., top of tracks are underwater, you are loaded a bit heavy and should look at what the specs say for your machine. The specs should list a maximum gross weight in water. Your machine, with added tracks, is a bit heavier than the base machine. If there are other added options, I.E., roll bar, winch(es), etc that have been added, they, along with the passengers, must be included in the maximum gross weight in water. It sounds as if you may have exceeded it.
(Anyway, just curious....rotary engine or helo aviator?)

Hello everyone. My name is Joe and I'm from South West Virginia. I've been into four wheelers for many years now and just recently acquired my first 6X6. It is an Attax dated back to the late 60s. I'm going to be honest, it's a basket case and I'm going to need help. The motor is a JLO L297 with a Tillotson HR 67A carburetor. Baker Hill gearbox is half gone and there is also an apex gearbox. Motor won't run. Looking forward to getting this machine up and going. I'll follow up with more details in other threads. Nice to meet you all and have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

Hi Everyone
I now own what I think is a Attex 400. It has the four stroke Tecumseh engine. (Have not found a serial number) Think it had been sitting full of water for a good while so pretty rough shape. One of the many things missing was a regulator on the engine so am using a high amp battery and charging it after use. No ignition system so have rewired that and now starts with a key and shuts off via a kill switch that used to control the sump.
I live in Shelburne Canada north of Toronto and am fortunate to own about hundred acres of forest with many trails and four ponds. last week we had several inches of snow and the little Attex was slipping around on hills. One of my projects going forward is to put tracks or half tracks because of the muffler location but first problem is a malfunctioning throttle lever and cable. Can control the engine manually at carb but the cable is either frozen or something like that so need to get a replacement.
Look forward to talking to everyone and getting this wonderful little machine working. Will of course be sending pics as I transform this neglected little duck into a very capable machine.
Thanks in advance
Mike

New to AATVs, remember the magazine ads from the '70's. I've had many gasoline-powered toys over the years; can't believe I never had a 6x6 til now. I bought one of the ex-Shriner Attex machines off of Craigslist last fall, rode it around for awhile and, since the original tub was trashed, decided to spring for a replacement tub from Mudd Ox. What was intended to be a weekend project turned into an all summer job but it's back on its wheels and running around, even though I have a few things left to do and it hasn't been in the water yet. My neighbor and I decided when it gets warm again we'll tie a rope on it and I'll drive it into the river and see what happens. I used a B&S muffler that bolts to the motor (18 HP Vanguard) so if anyone wants an old Attex muffler for a boat anchor, I'm in Dixon, IL. Message me and we'll see what we can do about shipping.
Had I known what a project this would turn into, I'd probably have passed up this machine and looked for a Maxx in decent shape but it's done now and I like the fact that the Attex is so rock simple that I can fabricate almost anything I might ever need...although maybe the Maxx is, too?
Aaaanyhow...even though there was a lot of new ground to cover, I do appreciate all the helpful stuff I found here on 6x6 World.

Got your PM and EM and PM'd and EM'd back.
Not sure how many people would be interested in hearing about the new tub conversion. Matt said he didn't sell a lot of 'em. It was lots of work, definitely not a drop in but I agree it was worth the trouble...at least now that it's back up. It gives new life to a machine that I think is well worth keeping.
It sure was a lot quieter when the axles/hubs/sprockets were all rusted together!
