    Hi everyone,
My name is Jim, and I'm from the Lansing Mi area. I do not own a machine yet and I'm not sure what I should buy. My land has a creek running through it with several hundred yards of flood plain on each side. I suppose you could describe the field as swamp. The field has tall grass growing in mud with pockets of standing water up to about a foot deep. I used to own a tractor with tall enough tires and ground clearance to retrieve deer from the other side of the creek. I bought a little chevy tracker to replace it thinking it would be light weight enough to make it through. It did....just not back!!! ooops
I'm wondering if more wheels are better? Would an 8x8 do better than a 6x6,
or perhaps tracks are the answer. Maybe anything is capable of getting stuck in this mess. I could see the tall weeds getting wrapped up in tracks and causing problems.
Does anyone have experience with land such as mine?

    • buggyman....i have the same type of Bogs on my land..8 ft water holes to clumps and piles of marsh grass....My Argo conquest with the Tracks on is UNSTOPABLE!!!!!!!!!With out tracks its worthless in the Bogs!!!!..a little swamp grass gets wrapped up but no Biggie!!!!8 or 6 wheels I dont think it matters as long as ya have tracks...8 wheeler just has a little more room to give rides...everyone is shocked to see these machines go where you couldnt even think of walking or driving with any other so called ATV

        Hey Buggyman,
I have a smaller attex, one of the smallest aatv,s. Only thing smaller is gyp sea or jiger that i can recall off hand. But I have ran in stuff like you talking and it is unstoppable with my goodyear terra tires. Like tractor style tread. I think its a combination of light weight machine and good tires. I have never been stuck where I need a tow. I have been stuck but its small enough I can move it over, turn it or what ever. Only time it gets stuck is when it high centers. If in really muddy stuff bring a stick to help push so you dont get you feet dirty.

I would gladly show you what it can do. Im pretty close. But with hunting season the spot I ride that is swampy with grass, seaweed and lilliey pads is closed. The problem might be hauling deer in it. It dont have the storage of an 8x8. But with a rack or something installed it would probably work out good. The guy I ride with does get stuck with his 8x8 but he has bald runamucks. He really needs to get new tires so we can compare equally. 8x8 with tracks would be unstoppable. Unless you want to swim.

If you want to test it out before you buy one PM me and we can set something up. Probably best after hunting though. Hopefully my buddy get some new tires before then and you can get a feel of both. Maybe my bro would work on his gotcha and you can get a feel of a amphib 4x4, 6x6 and a 8x8.

Since this is the only place Ive seen anything on these machines on the net id thought id start here for advice and possibly help for parts. But this was just a post to say Hi, Ill start a discussion in a more appropriate thread.
          Hi, and thanks in advance.

          • Stranded in the god-forsaken north?

So I live in the Yukon, in Canada's far north, with a Argo Avenger that I like to use to go out to our lodge in the mountains in the middle of winter in the god-forsaken wilderness and miles away. with no top.
so if you breakdown, what then? Your screwed. Only another argo can rescue an Argo. Already happened, but lived to tell so far.
Is there some kind of support network out there?

            • Welcome to the site. If you have someone close by to ride with you that's your best bet. Make a good plan before leaving, let people know where you are going and when you should be expected back. Have an emergency plan in place in case you do get stranded. Get the number to a helicopter in the area that could come pick you up. Seriously, even private pilots would be happy to help you out for a fee. Some may even do it for free if you get to know them. Finallly take a lot of tools and spare parts.

                  • John and Tim, welcome to the site! John, good luck finding someone to ride with. Give it some time and someone will probably pop up in your area. Tim, I look forward to seeing the pictures of your Agilator. I've only seen a few pictures of one. There are a few in the gallery and I saw one for sale in the UK a while back. Very unique ride.

Hi I'm looking at a 1982 to 1987 Hustler 980. It has a briggs 16hp. The machine looks to be in good condition the engine runs and drives. The only problem looks like the emegency brake is broken off. All original tires,motor,t-20.
The guy wants 1500.00 for it. I think Icould get it for 800.00 to 1200.00. What is the going price for the machine.

I'm looking at this machine to hunt out of when the mississippi river floods the island that I hunt on. I own a 4 wheeler and pirogue. Works 95% the time but some areas that I want to hunt or over several ridges and bottoms.

Any ideas of other machine like a coot/terra-jet/argo etc in that price range

                        Take care & God Bless

                        • Greetings everybody. I joined to look around. I am toying with the idea of getting a 6x6 to haul my family ATVing. I like the 4 seaters and the Hustler 980 looks like a good one for my needs.

I live in Idaho, and these don't appear to be too popular here, but when I get serious, I will start hunting around for one.
                          Here for the pictures
