In 1978, I rode in an argo for the first time. I promised myself that one day I would have one. Well..... some 30 years later if figured the timing was just about right. I acquired a 2000 Response from an estate. As is often the case, the previous owner had bought it new and only got 8 years of use before he was called to the big Moose hunt in the sky. The machine had 130 hours on it and it was pristine.... this is not a word you would normally use for an argo but in this case, it seems appropiate. i have since acquired 6 extra RUNAMUK tires and a full set of SuperTracks. A recent test with the tracks in the neighbouring swamp left me and my huntiing parter really anxious for the upcoming moose hunt. We have an area that we have skirted for years because of impregable swamp. I will not bad mouth the 4x4 but I doubt that I will see one where we are headed.
I have had the machine a couple of weeks and have already made up a rack for the rear compartment to which I hope to attach a roof support. Hopefully the weather will hold and I can sew up a cover to keep the snow that might hit us in Mid-October.
I have sat on the side lines reading many blogs and forums..... it is all interesting. In one of the threads, I explain how I have had a run in with just about every insurance company in Ontario and finally got the insurance that is required.
I hope to post some pictures soon......many thanks to all the participants who posted pics of their modifications. I have gleaned through all the ROPs that you have posted and have come up with my version of the always changing design.
Now I have to go an buy some more steel.............
GuyVapeur................this handle relates to one of my other hobbies. I own a 23 foot steam powered boat and I am building a second 26 footer.

Brand new to this world. I have always wanted an aatv ever since I was a kid. I have a 1970 argo 6x6. I am doing a complete frame out resto. I have never even heard the thing run. Just picked up all new axle bearings yesterday. Still need rims and tires (currently have fatcats that don't hold air) and a new top end (siezed motor) and the very hard to find 7/8 hubs to fit rims. The old ones were destroyed getting them off. I will have lots of questions in the future and any help/suggestions would be appreciated. The next step after reinstalling the frame and axles is rims and tires. Any suggestions on what works well and what size I can run. I think it used to have 22" runamuks.

Hi teeko, welcome to the site. You have a heck of a project going but it will be worth it in the end. Post some pictures as you go. For your tire question, look through the tire forum and the Argo forum. Depending on what kind of riding you will be doing, you can go with a new Argo tire that would swim really well or you could go with a cheaper tire good for trail riding.

hello,
I just bought a 19xx challenger 6x6 I think. It's all there but with flat tires. I would like to know a little about this thing and what I should do to get it running. It has an engine (JLO Rockwell) This is my two son's project and I an the Supervisor. Some questions below:
1) where can I buy tires/wheels and a conversion kit to rid the through away tires?
2) What HP is the engine?
3) What speed will teh 6x6 go?
4) What so I call it? Arog, 6x6?
5) What other things should I do to make this a reliable toy for my boy's
