Hello everyone, my name is John, and I live in Millington, TN, which is just outside of Memphis, TN. I signed up here because I'm considering buying a 6x6, most likely a MAX II, in the near future. I currently have a fourwheeler (is that a dirty word around here?), a 2009 Yamaha Grizzly 350 4x4. I have been less than impressed with it, because of lack of power, and a few maintenance issues. Now it's smoking like a freight train on cold starts....great. In the years that I have been riding around here, I have only seen one 6x6, a MAX IV, on the trails. My biggest concern with a 6x6 is ground clearance, and second is HP. According to my research, my Griz is rated at 26 hp, and the biggest engine you can get on a MAX II is a 23 hp v-twin. I get into situations where the engine will bog down quite frequently. I believe the saving grace on HP will be the gearing; my Griz will run about 45-50 MPH on pavement, and from what I've read, a MAX will only run about 20-25. Lower gearing = more TQ to the ground. Anyway, this is me, and those are my thoughts.19?? Hustler 930 Frame-out resto in progress!

2003 Honda VTX1800S
1982 Ford F-150 4x4 351W
2009 Ford Ranger
Do I have too many toys?...NAH!!

Hi John, welcome to the site. I think you will find that a Max II with the 23HP motor will have all of the power and torque that you need. When my Max II had an 18HP motor in it, that was enough power to spin the tires before it would bog down going up a really steep hill so I know the 23HP will be more than enough. Good luck in your search.

Glad to see there's a wealth of information here about rebuilding AATVs. I just purchased, year unknown, an AATV. Its a Hustler 950, I'm guessing an 80's model. It also came with 6 wheel spacers and tracks. Ill be putting those on in a couple days.

Hello amphibious atv owners. I am about to become one myself. I am going to get a camo 2005 avenger this weekend . The machine has 190 hrs and fully loaded. I have a remote camp that i try to use year round. Now with the argo i will be able to go anytime i want. You might see more of me around here cause i am pretty sure i will have question about operating and maintaining the argo. This the machine is all new to me. I have every other toy but an argo. Now i will have one. Hope the 2005 avenger performs well for me. I have evry high expectations.

Welcome Camokid,
You came to the right place. I'm sure your Argo will do just fine. Make sure you check it out real good before you buy it, and it doesnt hurt to do some preventative maintainance when you first bring it home. You never know what a previous owner could have done to a machine, but when simple maintanance is done they can last forever.l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

Hi there
I'm Mitch from Australia,
and I'm about to purchase a s/h Argo Conquest 8x8 as a farm/work vehicle, mainly to use for spraying, wood gathering, and just a general dogs body round the farm.
I've been reading these forums a lot, and have basically wanted an Argo since the late 70's.
I hope to get a lot of great info from here as I start my Resto project (fingers crossed)

Hi. I teach Small Engines at a high school in Peterborough Ontario Canada, and we are always active fixing , building, repairing, whatever in the classroom. At present we have a Bazoo that we are trying to adapt a four stroke motor,1" keyed straight shaft to a snowmobile clutch to fit, and looking at the most inexpensive alteratives.Help.

I live in Copper Center Alaska and have owned a Argo Conquest for 14 years. I love this machine, It has never ever left me anywhere broke down. I mainly only use it for hunting and put anywhere from 60 to 80 hours on it a year. I have replaced the chains twice and the bearings only once, did some minor work to the engine at 600 hours and we also have down some clutch work on it that RD recommeded out side of that it has been a good machine.
