    • Hey everyone, longtime listener/ first time caller! Avid off roader but finally stumbled into the amphibious adventure with a action age gotcha and Hooked! Still have much more work ahead on her as I am finding out that they are kinda rare. Look forward to meeting some peeps and helping out.

        • Hello Members, Looks like a great site for aatv information. Just got home with a 2001 Max IV with 196 hrs., awesome condition. Never had one and am looking forward to equipping with a track system and rigging for ice fishing. Any help is deeply appreciated. We are located approx. 25 miles north of Indiana, in the middle of the state. I am retired and spend most of our time walleye and perch fishing, open waters and ice fishing. Also deer hunt.

          • Hello Moldman, welcome to the forum. Congratulations on picking up your Max IV. That should make for a great ice fishing rig.

            • Hello to AATV forum members. I am living in the deep south of Louisiana USA. I am a fortunate heir and owner of a former rice plantation app 850 acres that was viable in the 19 th century. I have grown up hunting on this property for ducks and deer. Originally I had a Kawasaki ATV to travel this property that was very good on roads but it was limited because most of the area was covered by water and by soft mud. In 2007 after visiting a dealer in Abbeville, La. I decided that I would purchase the Argo 6 x 6, 23 hp. Frontier model.

I am very happy to find that my new Argo was very well built ,reliable and will carry more than one rider when needed without anyone getting wet.

I soon found out the hard way that my Argo has its limitations also in very soft, "pudding" mud that hi points the bottom and causes it to become stuck in the mud. My first experience with a stuck Argo was in the middle of a marsh with no trees....It was an awakening moment for me. I had to walk back over a mile and leave my $11,000.00+ investment behind in the marsh.

With some effort, I was able to carry a 250 ft.reel of rope back to the Argo and attach to some scrub brush and with the front winch and some luck and pushing , I was able to get my new Argo out of the marsh.

The reason that I joined the this forum was to educate myself on the various track systems for my Argo . I was afraid to get tracks earlier because I didn't trust that even a track system would not get stuck and... that would not be fun.

I am the only Argo owner in this area that I know of so I don't have any other users to talk to so I will be reading the forum reports and trying to convince myself that my Argo can with the installation of some track system make it possible for me to take the Argo almost anywhere on the plantation for duck hunting purposes.

              Sincerely,
              Rat Dog

Hi Ratdog, welcome to the site. There is a member on this site who now owns a Mudd ox but has owned I think 3 Argos and one Max IV. His name is Dan Edwards and we call him Mighty Max.You will be pleased to know that Dan knows more about our machines with tracks in mud than almost anybody and he has posted lots of videos that you might want to look up. Happy mudding.

                  • closest one to you is probably Adair Argo. Tell them what you're after, they'll be able to give you some options. You're property sounds like fun. Glad to have you

Rat Dog - buy yourself a Danforth boat anchor. They fold up and extend when there is a pull on them. Attach to your winch when needed. I have done this many times on by SXS and it works well.

                      • Hello, I have access to remote acreage in two counties in OH and also in Lee, ME. I would like to pull some firewood out of the one I own to make it pay for itself. There is no rush. I'll be looking at the ATV and 6X6 options for the next year. I like the amphibious option because it has fewer limits. I'd like opinions from anyone who has combined recreational 6x6 use with any small-scale logging or other work applications. Thanks

                        • Hello forester, welcome to the forum. If you are looking for a new ATV, you will probably want an Argo or Mudd-Ox. I would lean towards an 8x8 since you will be using it for hauling a load. If you are looking for a used ATV, you can still look at Argo and Mudd-Ox but may also want to include ATVs like a KID 8x8.

                          • Hi, I'm a relatively new AATV owner. Always wanted one as a kid, my 9 year old saw an Argo on "How its made" which gave me an excuse to get one. Bought a used 04 Bigfoot last year & had a blast with it, including a trip to Mines & Meadows with Leo's (found on Argo facebook). Only negative, this past weekend we got 12" of snow (rare occurrence in Southern VA) and Vanguard engine started acting up. Had a trickle charger on it & started right up, I also keep it in a heated garage. Stalled & wouldn't restart so I jumped it. Went riding and throttle felt to be stuck wide open. We made it back to the house but, the engine started running rough. Shut it down & wouldn't restart. Tried it the next day and started up but stalled. Now it won't turn over. Battery has been on the charger and the electric stuff will turn on. I used to work on cars & trucks when I was younger but haven't in years and have very little to no experience with these little engines. I'm thinking carb but any ideas would be great!

                            • New owner of a Respnse

                              Greetings,
I am a new owner of a lightly used 1996 Response.
I purchased it primarily for plowing my steeeeep driveway, since my back surgery in June I could no longer muscle around my old ATV and the Argo seemed like the perfect solution.
I had the dealer fabricate a "light bar" in case of a roll over and I'm looking for some suggestions for a rear LED work light bar so I can see when I'm backing down my driveway.

                              Thank you,
                              GJS

                              • dave0370, welcome to the forum and congratulations on picking up your Bigfoot. Those are great machines. If the motor won't turn over then I would stick with the battery/starter as the main culprit. For running rough, that could very well be trash in the carburetor.

Greetings GJS, welcome to the forum. It looks like you have a very clean Response! That should work nicely for your driveway and let you have a little fun in the process as well.
