  • Visitor Today

My old buddy plott a muss hound has saddled up his Chevy with H.D.I in tow and braving the somewhat nasty weather to come to the ranch for a visit and a Argo ride, its been awhile looking forward to seeing him we dont get to many visitors at the ranch and planning a good jawing checking out his H.D.I and going for a tour in this weird January thaw there will be plenty of overflow on the lakes and still a ton of snow in the bush but heavy and wet, which pretty much describes what the both of us will be today LOL and we will be having a beverage and toasting the end to my high geared transmission today is its wake then off to the bush Ya Hoo.Cheers NCT

OK, so in your opinion and current conditions, do you prefer the std or Admiral?

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
        Joe Camel never does that.

I would have to spend a lot more time with the Admiral to be unbias, current conditions here is very wet heavy snow couple feet or so of it with the standard you want to keep both tracks moving which requires some gentle pressure on the brakes of the opposite side that you want to get some more drive out of whereas the Admiral continues to drive both fairly equal,so a plus for the Admiral it requires less driver input,in today's conditions breaking trail in snow that resembles quick sand a quick jerk here and there to course correct without bearing down on the brakes which will make you lose you track packed snow under you and make you sink further the standard is supreme, its hard to put into words but its kinda a under-steer over-steer scenario the Admiral can get me in to trouble quicker by being slow to react to input, but as I said I have been thrashing about in the bush with a standard trans in a Argo since the early seventy's thousands of hours and maybe 5 hrs with the Admiral so not fair Iam sure that once my brain was rewired to the Admiral it would be fine just to me at this time its like cutting your lawn with a pile of trees around with a standard tractor stlye riding mower as compared to a zero turn.JMO NCT

well it was a nasty 3 hour drive in foggy conditions but I made around 11:30.sure was good see my bud again, been a couple of years since I had the pleasure.he took me on a real nice 3-3.5 hour tour across the lake to his cottage and around and round and not quite upside down through some really nice trails and across a second lake.was a good eye opener for me,gave me a better idea as to what my HDI with rubber tracks is capapable of.the snow was still pretty deep and super soft with no base, and some of the little hills were pretty nasty with a bit of bush whacking involved.al in all its one one nicest afternoons I spent with my butt planted in that argo seat.i managed to get a few pictures taken but none taken in the challenging spots, was to busy holding on.could not snap a picture and steer with camera in one hand and a real sore right shoulder.never had an issue with the track tuners and no tire slippage.this 600 km round trip was the best Saturday ive spent in quite some time.

Great way to explain it. I have well under 100 hours in an Argo (standard transmission), and several hundred in T-20 equipped machines. I can get anything with a T-20 through way more situations than I ever could the Argo, but I equate that mostly to experience. If I was at several hundred hours in an Argo, i'm sure I would be just as comfortable and competent at driving it

Congratulations to you and NCT Plot hound. It is so nice riding in company with a friend and you feel so confidant that you can push yourself to learn what your outfit can really do. Glad to hear that you two had such a great time.

Bingo racerone3 I after 50 years of booting around in these contraptions got a machine with a T 20 and now have more hours on a T 20 than a Admiral for the first while it seemed that old age had caught up with me as dyslexia had set in I got stuck, went the wrong way in reverse, got entirely to close to trees, generally fought the machine getting stuck you name it,now its way easier and have very little issues, all these machines are quite capable and there is a huge difference in how they perform when in a very experienced persons hands its all about as you said what your use to.The Admiral is the Gen 3 of Argo,s transmissions and it has alot going for it but alas the machine I own now with a standard will likely be the last I will need as age is the factor so i will keep thrashing thru the bush with a machine that hark ins back to the dial telephone while you guys are using Skype oh and before I forget I had my reservations on the track tuners that Plot uses and although still not my cup of tea for remote use they performed flawlessly even in 8 to ten inches of overflow and some pretty gnarly trails I see their benefits but not convinced yet would have liked to run that slush in below zero weather with ice buildup in the tracks that I see often but not a issue yesterday. .LOL Cheers NCT

"we dont get to many visitors at the ranch"..............Hmm, you don't reckon it might have something to do with your warm weather? This time of year I probably have more Canadians within a 100 miles of me than you do! All kidding aside I hate to hear your Argo broke down but I do remember you got a new tranny for Christmas a while back so you're ahead of the game a bit. Good luck.
