  • Best way to clean out lower body?

    Hi All,

Having just got a Max II, I have split the top cover off the lower tub to give it a service and check over but it is pretty filthy in there with mud, old grease etc.

What is the best way to clean all of this out without causing too much damage to things such as chains/bearings etc.?

I was thinking of tipping it onto its side, slightly more than 90 deg. so the water and gunk can freely run out and then just pressure washing everything as best I can, followed by a good going over with an airline and then just re-greasing all the bearings/sprockets/chains etc with fresh grease and chain lube.

Is this generally how its done, or do you have some better suggestions and tips?

    Cheers, Ian

sounds good ian... may be better to raise the front up so everything can drain out the rear drain holes. spraying the chains, sprockets, and tub bottom with engine degreaser and letting it sit a bit before washing may help.i assume the engine and tranny are out ? i've . degreased my engine and trans and then hosed them off to get them clean ( not a pressure washer ) . just cover the carb , etc. on the motor and go easy . i'm sure others will have some good guidelines also...have fun, nothing like a nice clean machine . johnboy

      Hi John,

I had forgot to add that I would spray everything in engine degreaser first and work it into the worst areas and let it sit for a day or two, then wash it all out.

No, I haven't removed the engine or trans, was just going to drain all the oils before tilting it over and then fully service with all new oils/filters once I had cleaned the tub.

I won't pressure wash any 'sensitive areas', just use the hose, which should be enough if the degreaser has done its work.

Is it usual for the body to fill with loads of mud? I would have thought you would have to charge into it at a fair old speed for it to reach the areas that it seems to have on my Max?

I presume the previous owner was a bit too keen on occasion!

you would be surprised after a weekend at busco how full of mud most machines are...especially after getting in and out in the mud to get unstuck and most tires and tracks throw quite a bit all over you and the aatv !!! johnboy va.
