  • Clutch Removal

Does anyone have any idea on how to pull this clutch off? It doesn't have a threaded hole.

If it were mine, I would first apply a generous dose of penetrating oil and let it soak for a day or two. Then I would get something between the crank case and the back of the clutch to apply outward pressure. Preferably something on each side to apply equal force. Then apply some heat to the clutch shaft (at the bottom of the V where the belt would run). While applying the heat, reach through the mounting bolt hole and strike the end of the crank, being careful not to damage threads. The idea is to use the tiny amount of endplay in the crank to move the clutch. If it moves, you will have to continuously adjust the mechanism applying outward force.

    Good luck

I have a manual that may have the process covered. I will check tonight and see.

It looks like it may be a Drummond clutch, but information is scarce. All I have is an exploded view. It looks like you have to take the clutch apart in order to get at the inner pulley which may threads in the center. I'll try and post a picture of the view.

Do you have any idea how it comes apart? I tried the hex nut on the outside and so far nothing. I don't want to hammer on it.

I'm thinking the hex nut is the key. I'm not sure if it spins out of the cover or if the whole cover spins off (pretty sure it's the former) but that would give you access to the weights and at least then you'd be able to see more of what you're up against.

Scott, try an impact gun, you may have to try both directions. A couple 10 blaps should do something.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
                Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

I thought of that, I just have to go out and find the socket. The largest one I have is a 38mm. I am going out today and get a bigger one and try it out.
