I'm restoring a vintage hustler and I didn't measure the distance between the primary drive pulleys. Does it matter if there not in the same place?

Some Hustlers were manufactured without a provision for belt adjustment. Some of us built sliding mounts for the engine to remedy the situation.Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.

Sandman the answer is it does matter. If your pulleys are closer together, your belt will run loose and affect your low end torque and speed. This can be resolved by purchasing a shorter belt. If you are swapping engines, do take time to make an adjustable engine mount so you can fine tune belt tension. It is well worth the effort.Does it matter if [the pulleys are] not in the same place?
