  • So I flipped the MAX this weekend... I'm OK,

So a lesson to all! driving on on a flatbed trailer has risks. From this point on I will be winching the max up the ramps. I had taken the Max off of the trailer using the boat-style hand winch.

I'm completely to blame. I know better and I did it anyway. I was in a hurry and I drove my Max up the ramps on to the trailer. Once on top of the snow covered wood deck I starter to spin & slide. With a real fear I would go off sideways and thinking that I could just roll back down the ramps, I let it roll back. Little did I know that the ramps had been kicked off by my wheel spin. within a split second I flipped over and had the Max pinning me to the frozen ground. If anything I made the best possible fall, I don't have a roll bar but the rear rack and the nose kept the Max off of my body. I had been hauling chains and a chain saw on the floor luckly I had unloaded them into the truck otherwise they would have rained down on me. With the strength of a near-miss filling my viens with adrenalin I kicked up with my legs and flipped the max off of me. As you can imagine I landed hard! and it took a few minutes to put it all together. I got the Max on it's wheels and parked it where it was. My back hurt bad, I had landed across one of the ramps right at my waist.

So it looks like I will get away with sore back for a week or so, which if you ask me is getting away cheap. This could have ended with a headstone.

Sounds like it's time for a roll bar, SHJ! Glad you're okay- like you said, it could be lots worse. Hope your back feels better soon.

      WOW

      Glad your OK there SuperJohn.
That's the way these things happen in a split second, things go bad. As i said glad you are alright and maybe by communication this you may prevent someone else from letting this happen to them. Prayers will be with you on the back pain.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

I covered my trailer deck with rolled roofing. The gravel coated kind. It works great, gives good traction for me & my Argo tires.

Anytime I use ramps, I use a tie down to make sure they can't spit out from the tires. After seeing someone dump a lawn tractor after the deck caught and the back tires kicked the ramps out, it was enough for me!

A lot of ramps have a couple small holes at the top for pins, I'm supprised how many people don't know they're there or that that's what they're for. Of course if you don't have a spotter, best to winch on/roll off the trailer, but I don't listen to myself at all, (I haven't even drilled the pin holes in the tailgate)

I was using a hinge to connect my ramps to the trailer. I'd connect them with the hinge pin to go up or down the ramps and pull the pins to store the ramps after.

                    Glad to hear your OK
I built a set of Ramps from Industrial Aluminium Cable Tray, with hooks that keep the ramps from kicking back and dropping to the ground, Works good for me......Nock on wood.

It brings it to everyone attention. a lot of folks tend to get lazy.

My ramps are hindged on to the trailer just for that reason. I bought 2 sets of ramps and bolted them together, side by side and had them attached to exact width of my Argo. Now it's a breeze! Especially with the roll roofing on the deck. No slips, no kick back on the ramps.
