  • Tragic loss to the AATV world (Roger S has passed away)

Today David called me and informed me that Roger (Argo 8x8) has died of cancer. The last time I saw Roger was in October at the River ATV park. He was kind and helpful, full of life and joyful at prospect of getting to run his souped up Argo through the woods and swamp of river run.

Roger was the best AATV driver I ever saw and I learned a lot watching his videos while I was trying to learn what I could and could not do with an AATV.

Apparently Roger has not been feeling well since October. He has been very sick and weak for about three weeks. He went into the hospital Thursday and died Saturday while he was in surgery from cancer related causes.

I will miss Roger and his happy smile. I will miss the blare of his Argo 8x8 ripping across the camp site and down the trails. I will miss him because he was a wonderful person.

    Roger was 59 years old.

This is the last great video I have of Roger at river run.
At the 5:09 mark you can can see him lighting that famous cigar in the middle of a swamp run.

I talked to Roger,s girl friend on wensday and she told me that Roger was feeling very weak. On thursaday Roger,s girl and Roger,s next door neighbor, helped Roger into their car and took him to the closest hospitail. Roger had one surgery on thursady and another one on friday, but his health continued to decline. Roger passed away saturday evening. When Roger,s girl friend told me this I was shocked ! I was really looking forward to Roger making another amphib group ride with us at river run atv park this spring.

I'm at a bit of a loss. Lots of folks got to know Roger through our hobby, and many of us got to know more of him here on the message board. Roger was a brilliant mechanic, and an even more brilliant ATV driver. I've talked to Roger several times as he's been a gracious help to me and my sophomoric questions.

We've lost an irreplaceable asset to our world, and a great friend to many.

I was looking forward to seeing what he could do with an 8x8 and 24 inch swimmer tires. I guess I'll never know, right now my stomach is in knots. Very, very sad.

Roger was a great guy. He was always helpful on all matters. A great enthusiast for our hobby. We will all miss him. I'm glad I got to meet him in person and ride with him. Rather than lament his passing, let's celebrate what he brought to us: knowledge, enthusiasm, humor, etc.

Wow, I had no idea Roger was sick. I sure enjoyed riding with him on each of our many amphib runs at Deepwater and Flat Nasty. It won't be long and there will be no one left of the 'old gang' I used to ride with. Roger will be missed.

Wow this is very sad news indeed. I've never met Roger personally but we had corresponded a bunch about Briggs upgrades etc. His posts were always filled with such knowledge of all things amphib. I never missed a video of him with the hopped up Briggs and his virtuoso driving skills. The video of the "spring" ride in the blizzard comes to mind. Roger you will be missed.

Roger and I were trading messages a week or two ago about getting together for an AATV ride at Disney when the weather cleared up.

He was a good man, and will be missed by many. Prayers go out for his family.

Sorry to hear of Roger's passing, as stated by someone i did not know he was sick but he may have wanted to keep it that way. I never got to ride with Roger but talked several times on the chat forum. He will be missed. My condolences to his family and friends.

Wow, that really sucks. I have enjoyed Roger's posts here on the site since the beginning. He joined the very first month that we were online and was an active participant in our early chat sessions every Sunday night. He was one of those guys that always knew way more than he ever let on, yet he treated everyone equally regardless of how much they knew.

You can't say it any better than that.

                            You will be missed.

Wow this is so sad! I cant believe it. Roger S. has been a great help to many on the forum. I loved the sounds of his argo screaming up the hills and other challenges. Extremely talented guy who was such a great person at heart. I feel so bad for his family and friends and my thoughts and prayers go out to him.
