He hadn't sold it when I last spoke to him. You can contact him through his youtube account or ebay if his ad is still there. I should point out that his machine still needs a lot of work. I think he has old mismatched batteries and the speed controller has not been installed. I think he also mentioned there was some wood used to reinforce parts of the machine, so it might be kind of rough. If you're near him you can go check it out I guess.

I don't think Attex ever produced those but I could be wrong.

I just noticed you're in Pittsburgh PA, over 6 hours away from me. I only have access to a truck that I can borrow for a few hours, couldn't do a 12+ hour round trip.

i emailed him and will see how much he wants

i have zero problems putting some new batteries in it
the speed controller i don't know about, i have no idea how to do that
if you guys could spell out what i need i think i have a friend that can do it for me
and i am sure he can replace all the wood, that should not be a problem

i just thought it sounded fun to have to run around with here at the house, maybe put a cart behind it and feed the horses with it instead of the golf cart i use now

i am a little worried about getting axle parts etc if it needs those but i guess there is a way to get some? i live just a couple of hours from whipper and i think he could help me with that kind of stuff if i needed him

What do you guys think about tolling motors

Hello sorry to but in as a newbie to your electric 6X6 thread but I was looking at these really low cost electric tolling motors for boats .
Since I would be ripping them apart I would get the lower cost transom mounted ones for this application .I would get the highest rated power I could get in this series and would put one per wheel .
This may add unwanted weight but I guess they would need some type of liquid cooling. I was even considering doing this to an 8x8 with the belief more motors more power . Do you think 140ld motor could do it ? Would I need to gear it down? Should I look into another motor entirely? One thing I like is that the motors have speed controller, gauging 3 or 4 together looks doable

I think you'd end up having a lot of problems going that route. Thrust motors aren't made for high loads, they run in water so they can spin up with much less resistance than a tire on the ground. They also aren't really shaped to fit in a wheel either, unless you are planning to put them inboard the machine. Then you'll need cooling as you say. Plus dealing 6-8 controllers might be a pain. You'd probably be better off looking for sealed hub drove motors as linked to earlier in this thread.

i am hoping to buy this machine from michigan, he has it tied up in a grant somehow and i won't know if it is available till next week sometime

anyway i know several of you read his description of how he did the elec conversion and was just wanting any pointers/suggestions on whether you think i should leave it that way or change some things
he is sending the speed controller and i plan to put that on

the other thing is this machine is close to detroit and i am in az, if anyone knows of someone heading this way for some reason who could haul it part or all the way to tucson i could pay their gas
if not a car hauler will have to bring it and they usually load and unload them a lot which i am not too fond of having done

Your best bet is probably uShip - The Online Shipping Marketplace - Ship Freight, Furniture, Vehicles or Moves I have had very good luck using that service.

If he doesn't have one you should install a failsafe disconnect of some sort. When a DC controller fails it fails full on so you'll need a high amperage way to break the connection between the batteries and the motor. You may also need to change the gearing since the guy said he had it geared way down because he had no speed controller. I'd sign up on a good EV board and ask questions there as well.

The Build Begins!

Started the tear down, pulled the JLO out of the Attex tonight after one last noisy, smelly ride It's a good running motor but I won't miss it. Gas tank and fuel lines are next to go. Got an Alltrax 48 volt 400 amp programmable controller to hook up to the electric motor, still need to get a contactor, potentiometer, resistor, diode, new throttle cable, battery cables and batteries. Should be fun
