  • What Retired design AATV should they bring back?

This will be the companies that no longer exist but made a really cool product .
You can modify something about it just post it .
Like I like the 240 lb Jiger but I would put a bigger engine with a t-20 in it.
Also a current AATV company can make it in case you think it would saturate the industry having too many manufacturers .
i.e. Recreative Industries Inc. (Max) making an Attex

I am missing a few that is why I put other. please post what type with other only 10 was allowed on poll

    Ampha Cat

    Attex

    Bazoo

    Hustler

    Jiger

    serra trail boss

    scrambler

    terra tiger

    Other please post and why

Why do we waste tax money on bridges and roads when we can all just drive AATVs

I would have to say that it would be a tie between the Attex and the Hustler for me. Both machines were build very well with #50 drive chain and T-20 transmissions. Both models had a poly body as well at one time during their production. I have to say that if these companies were around today there would be some really wild machines out there and the small niche market for amphibs would be larger than it is. Attex always had a very strong marketing campaign going for them and Hustler built very tough utility machines that were heavy like tanks and could drive through a house. Hustler even developed that monster on 26" tires.....the 980 BIGFOOT in the early 1980's which in my opinion was one of the 3 or 4 best machines that was built in the history of 6 wheelers. I absolutely love my poly body green Attex, even though it isnt done being rebuilt yet, and I love my Hustler 980 BIGFOOT. I drove some really wild Attexes too. I think that an Attex Superchief 500 or a really quick Attex racer would satisfy your need for speed and a Hustler would be a perfect utility/trail machine to have. That is just one more reason to justify why I have to own so many machines.

I thought they all used #50 roller chains

I thought they all used #50 roller chains
but I have been wrong before

so you do not think a 240lb jiger with 9800cc motor would be a good racer?

it would be at least a good 1/4 mile AATV

          that is nice

I have never seen that machine in person

In fact I have only see the Maxes, Argos, Ampha cats, Attex, Bazoo and jigers in the flesh. The rest I just see online

I agree with JP....I would even argue that the Hustler is a close cousin to the Max, the only real differences are the Max has splined axles and the motor is on top of the T-20 in the Max IV.

I like the Attex seats, they look more comfy than the Hustler.
            Hammers should have warning labels.

The Scrambler, Jiger, Terra Tiger, Amphicat, and Scrambler used #40 chain.

....and the Chaparral, early Attex and even early Max II on the final drive.

I have to agree with JP and 'crusher. Hustler because it's such a beast the way it's built and Attex because I'm extremely biased.

Yeah, it's just something you need to experience. Words can't really do much to describe the sensation. With the engineering talent that Attex had at its disposal, I can only IMAGINE where the company would be today if it were still in existence.

                    <sigh>

                      best design?

Hi1 I find the amphicat had the best design.. small, doesn't NEED a winch, very unstoppable.they float nice too... BUT....... they need a better material for a body.. abs doesn't cut it.... cracks, leaks etc....

This poll ended a bit early...

Feel free to keep post your suggestions

So far it seems Attex is the big winner. What about replicating this machine?
Is there a certain model that has the biggest appeal?

Was it fiber glass or plastic? I never had the privilege of seeing one up close and very few if any made it up wear I am.

From what I see it would be a sporty type of AATV

I would have thrown in with the Attex bunch for the poll, with Hustler a close second.

Robio- The early Attex were ABS plastic, and after 1976 they changed over to HDPE. They had a variety of models ranging from the 208TT with an eight HP Briggs to the Superchief with a 484cc Xenoah twin. In the last years they built only the Superchief and the Tomahawk, the latter powered by a 16HP Tecumseh OHV four-stroke. If Attex were to somehow go back into production, I think some version of both those machines would be the best bet.

                          Just my 2 cents.

                            Thank you Don

I see you are a two stroke engine lover
I like to use two strokes on my boat. I also have a two stroke sled but I hate snowmobiles since I have used an Argo with tracks .Better turning radius and more control for were I need to go .

So a fiberglass replica would not cut it?

P.S. were Tecumseh engines good at one time? I find the ones I have serviced problematic.

I love the old two-strokes just because of the rush acceleration and speed give, but I do want a trail machine with a big four-stroke in it

It would seem like fiberglass would either be too weak or too heavy. The Jiger was fiberglass and light, but broke up fairly easily, and machines like the Terra Tiger and the Scrambler were strong but very heavy. HDPE would still be the best material that I know of, but there may be better plastics on the market by now.

I've had a few of the OHV model Tecumsehs without many major problems, but I think the Kohler, Honda and Kawasaki each make a better product for what an AATV needs.
