Robio8x8, I am a big fan of HDPE plastic bodies. They are extremely tough and they are much more common to find without holes or cracks in them compared to other makes that had fiberglass. Another thing that made Attex so popular was their strong marketing efforts and wide variety of product lines. The Tecumseh engines that came in the Attex and even the Max and Argos at the time was the over head valve configuration OH160 and OH180 I believe. I rode with a Max II that had this engine in it and it thumped right along with plenty of low end grunt to it. I have never actually worked on any of these engines, but I hear that they were pretty stout and reliable.

      I like the brigs

I do not have any problems with the Briggs and Stratton

But I just stay away from the honda and kawasaki

One thing I like about AATVs is they seem to be North American for the most part
Why do we waste tax money on bridges and roads when we can all just drive AATVs

Just that if I were to go into my tool shed and whip up a home made AATV I would use fiberglass because it is relatively easy and would not require an expensive injection mold machine unless there is some low cost trick to it. Depending on the type of fiberglass you buy to can make a difference the old Jigers started off relatively strong but would weaken in the sunlight.

Argo use Vacuum forming. something that can be done in your garage if you feel like building a large oven for the HDPE sheet. there's a lot of info on the web.

I'd have to 2nd that opinioin. The Chaparral was one of the sexiest amphibs ever designed, IMHO. With modern materials and more heavy-duty running gear it would be a blast to own. I also vote for a ressurection of both the Attex and the Hustler. As with the Chap, keep the same looks, just update with modern materials and so forth.

i agree with you dirty...infact even a manufaturer like argo or r.i. could mold some bodys like the attex and chap..
to fit what they have for running gear now and definitly have a hit

Has anybody considered a swampfox ??
A swampfox may not be all that light weight but as a family 6x6 would perform its duties well

There is a modern version of the SSF known as the mud puppy but the body is the only item the same as the original versions . The body has been modified as well it is longer and there are no rear seats

Body is made out of fibre glass heavy but repairable to look new
A ssf will never be a racer due to its size weight . Looked for evidence of a racing history but never found any

                  T20 trans
                  4 stroke
optional brakes windsreen winch 2 engines 16 and 23/25 hp 4 stroke
                  1 1/4 solid axles standard
                  no 50 chain
seats upto 5 although with the larger engine 1 of the seats is un usable i imagine
                  26 inch tires
well balanced in water compared to argo etc as the engine/ trans are mid mount
when in water water level is only at 1/2 to 2/3 up the wheels

shares most mechanicals with other brands mainly Max

                  good allrounder

Excellent point, Tomo. The Swamp Fox, especially the Super Swamp Fox, is a beast! I saw Don's SSF in person and its a huge machine. I'm sure its very capable, and like you said an excellent all around rig.

I would vote for a Skipper,I tried pretty hard to find one of these a few years ago(Never found a complete one for sale).I think the bow rider seats were cool. Eddie

Has anyone considered the LTV Kid? I have never seen one in person, but from the pics and videos I've seen, it looks like a very capable aatv. Maybe with some updates like an aluminum body and an optional cab with heat and a/c, you'd have a really nice aatv. My second choice would probably also be the Hustler, I restored a 950 about a year ago, and it's a really great aatv. It might not be so hard to put the Hustler back into production, doesn't Richard Clark own what's left of that company? I think with an aluminum frame and a water cooled engine, I'd buy one. Something to replace the belt drive most aatvs have now would also be nice.

I'm pretty satisfied with my Max II, tho all I do is play & I don't consider what playing I do to be hard play. However, if someone were to bring back an oldie, I'd have to say an updated Amphicat. Regarding the fiberglass issue, I'm a fan of fiberglass 'cause it can be repaired fairly easily. Something to consider about fiberglass strength is that many small homebuilt / kit airplanes use foam in their construction, then covered with fiberglass. Easy to shape, then cover & adds strength. OTOH, HDPE is good stuff, but ABS definitely sucks.

I have to agree the Attex is just a plain cool design. Mine seemed to do very well in the Busco mud, does well in my private swamp, and looks nice too. The Chaparral is sick looking, though I've been told they are fragile. I'll find out soon
