  • Homework help PLEASE? Rants anyone?

What could be better? I get to use my Argo to do my homework! I am a design student at Ivy Tech. For my semester project I am attempting to improve these already capable vehicles. I am looking for anyone who wants to complain about their problems with their machine's operations. I want to hear it all! No complaint is too petty. I would also like to know about any machines besides Argo too. You can brag on why yours may be better. I also want to know where you use your machine the most.

    1. dirt
    2. snow
    3. water
    4. asphalt (yes a crime, I know)
    5. mud

    THANKS!!!

You forgot gravel... I'd say that the #1 improvment I'd like to see is the elimination of the belt drive. I hate belt drives. A torque converter or centrifugal clutch would be a huge improvment IMO.

A little more shock absorption would be nice for some of those rough trails....It could be in the seat design or other means..........

Guyfox - they have the option of a suspension seat from a tractor vs. using a plain bench seat.

I've often wondered about a suspension seat for the rear of an old jeep... bench and suspension seat.

Thanks for the info.....Would you happen to have any pics of how it is mounted/setup?

Here is a thread pertaining to the Max but a lot of it applies to Argo as well.

Guyfox - Amphibious Vehicles - Amphibious ARGO ATV, ARGO AATV, ARGO All Terrain Vehicle
Its not the greatest picture but it can give you a rough general idea on what it looks like and how its mounted.

Gearhead - They do the the option of a rear bench seat ... however it is possible to have front and rear bench seats ... slightly modifying the rear bench seat frame would make it very easy to have rear suspension seats

If you guys have any more questions please feel free to ask ... Im a argo mechanic and have been working on these machines for 2 years now ... also if you have any questions about modifying accessories for different machines let me know.

if you guys are looking for argo parts let me know and i'll see what i can find for you

Now as for the original topic lol. The most common problem i see with argos everyday is axle seals ... rubber seals and grease just aren't good enough also I see a lot of lack of lubrication to the bearings ... they need to have some kind of cheap but still affordable wet bath design like the Centaur axles

Thanks so much for the responses. Keepm coming. No complaint unworthy... Here's my chief one. I use mine for fishing alot. I am a paraplegic and double amputee and the Argo is perfect machine for me. I can load me and my gear at the house, drive straight into the lake and make the transition to fishing just by sliding to the boat seat in the back and dropping n the trolling motor. I built a wood deck that spans the back seats and removed the back rest in front to make this possible. The problem... I dont quit fishing till it's good and dark and I'm tired! This is when the laziness sets in. I don't feel like moving the deck and the batteries and all my gear to reach in and pull the plugs! Why aren't the plugs accesible from the outside? Needless to say, if you are fishermen you will understand, this happens alot. Now my baby is limpn and due for a tear down and new bearings and chains.

My baby's limpn and due for a teardown for chains and bearings. Last time I ordered parts from argo I contemplated very dark things upon recieving my bill. $1.01/washer and $1.01/rivet. I have my schematic and the bearings and chain seem to be standards so I will probably find them elsewhere. Any other work I should consider while I am tore down?

rockinroller - yes i do have to agree with you about the price of rivets and washers are way over priced. Now for your bearing and your chains ... getting 50 grade double link chains shouldnt be a problem getting them from a store other then a argo dealer ... now the tricky part would be your bearings ... im not 100% sure but i think ARGO and NTN bearing co. have an agreement that you can only get those bearings through argo. Ummm other things to look at when your doing your rebuilt should be your chain tensionors / plastic slider blocks ... another big thing would be the condition of your axles ... be sure to check for wear where the axle seals sit. Do you plan on reusing you old cork gaskets or are you using new for your outer bearing flanges ?

I have a max and I'm not sure if it will work but the max plugs come out from the outside. I'm sure somebody here has tried it and can tell u if they will work or not.
