  • Hustler 945-HH Rebuild

I picked up a Hustler 945-HH for a friend of mine last week and I am looking for some experienced advice.

First I have never hear of a 945-hh and cant find anything on the net. I have triple checked and the seat tag says HH as opposed to HK which i can find info on. Anyone know how to judge the year on this.

Second does anyone know the clutch series this is running so I can order a new CVT belt?

Third I need to decide what to do about the tire situation. At the very least it will need 4 new tires (it has 2 new on the rear) and i would like to replace one rim if i go this route. So I need a source for a hustler rim other than Richards relics since i have heard bad things about his pricing and shipping. But If i am already stripping it down I think I would like to go back with a larger tire. It has 21x11x8 on it at the moment. Is it possible to switch to a hustler 12 inch rim and run a 24 or 25 inch tire? It looks like it would be a fairly tight fit.

The game plan atm is to strip it down do a rebuild on the t-20, Possible build a better muffler system, Rebuild the drive clutch it is make a bit of noise, Replace/powder coat the wheels, Re-chain it and fix a couple of wallowed sprocket bolt holes and build new chain tensioners, Clean up the frame and reinforce the trans mount, then build basket for the back and a receiver mounted winch.

First off, welcome to 6x6 World!! There are alot of very knowledgable and helpful members on this site, and there's usually someone who can answer your question.

Apparently Hustler had alot of different model designations for very similar machines. Your machine looks almost identical to my 945-HK. The red Kohler K341 I believe makes this an early 80's Hustler.

For your drive belt, take it off and measure it. Once you know the proper length, you should be able to order one from any place that sells go-cart or snowmobile parts. It ought to be a 1 3/16" wide belt. From the looks of that picture though, the one you have should be fine.

The short tub Hustler models can run up to a 25 inch tire. I have heard of people running 26's, but I haven't ever seen any pictures to proove it. I am running 25x12-12 Interco Vampire TSL's on mine and there is very little room left.

You can check out my build thread for ideas if you want:1983 Hustler 950 V-Twin Transplant (yes, it says 950, that was before I discovered that it's actully a 945....)

Here is mine with the 25" Vampires.

    1983 Hustler 945-HK 627cc Vanguard
1982 GMC K-10 Sierra Classic Suburban 6.2 Diesel
    2010 Chevy Silverado 1500
    1974 Honda ATC 70
1986 Honda ATC 250ES Big Red

There is no Z in Diesel!!

What wheels are you running. I have had a little trouble finding 12 inch wheels with the 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern. Also what offset is that.

I think Stonewall fabricated his hubs to fit those 12" ATV wheels with the 4 lug pattern. You can get 12" rims from a Max IV to fit your stock Hustler 5 bolt hubs from Recreatives. Amphibious Six-Wheel Drive All-Terrain Vehicles: MaxATVs - Call 1-800-255-2511
