Hey Turner,
I was searching some previous threads and found that the Dayco part# for a Kohler 16HP was a Dayco 1078. However; I do not know if they used the same belt for the Briggs and the Kohler??
I sent an e-mail to a buddy, soon as I hear back from him, I'll let you know.Hammers should have warning labels.

I have a 980 with the original Briggs I/C 18hp engine. There is not a belt made by anyone any longer that will fit it. Your best option is to remount the engine one inch further back and then you can find a belt. I'm at this stage but have held off thinking i might just put in a vanguard.

Hey Jerry,
Have you checked the Dayco and Gates websites for the entire list of belt dimensions? They have a really wide variety. There are belts all the way up to 56". I think I remember Richard Clarke telling me that the original belts were 52".
Hey Turner,
If all else fails, just get a cloth tape measure and measure around the outside edge of your engine clutch and T-20 clutch. You will need to subtract a little from this. (.25-.5 inch). You can compare this with the The world's most trusted name in belts, hoses & hydraulics | Gates Corporation website where they have inside dimensions of the belts listed. It is not an exact science and you may have to play with it, but you are looking for 1" deflection when the belt is installed.Hammers should have warning labels.

Hey, Turner;
I have two numbers for you, but you may find that they're both discontinued like Jerry says. The one that came on the machine is a Goodyear #1930V491 and the one on it now (I had it here and don't know where I got it) is a Salsbury #704084.
Hope this helps.Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.

Cool. Thanks for crossing it. I don't think I'll keep the flat twin, but if I do I can at least get a new belt. I'm going to put the engine on a slide so you can adjust it instead of letting it get real loose and then replacing it.Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.
