  • Hustler clutch

What is the thingy called that mounts to the lower pulley? Is it a clutch or what? It appears to be worn out. When I attempt to apply the brake to one side and turn, It pops loose. It should fit tightly together, but it barely touches on the points. Can I adjust this so it seats deeper and doesn't slide or does this need replacing? If it needs replacing where can I acquire one? Thanks.

I went to richard's relics and found the clutch I was looking for. Looks like I need to make or buy a driver to remove it. How hard is it to remove the clutch without taking the tranny out?

Can you explain what is wrong with your clutch again? I couldn't follow what you were saying. Have you made sure that the bolt in the middle of the clutch is tight?

As for removing it, look in the how-to section here: http://www.6x6world.com/forums/aatv-...r-rebuild.html

You will probably have to take the trans our of the machine but I don't know for sure. It takes a good bit of room to slide the clutch off the end but I don't know how much room you actually have on your Hustler.

There's enough room to take it off....but he will most likely have to pull the trans if it is stuck on the shaft.

          Hey Camron,

Post up some pics of what is going on. Also, check the woodruff key/clutch keyway to ensure they fit properly. The keyway on my clutch was bad and I had to get a machine shop to cut a new keyway.

The two pieces of the clutch are slipping past each other. They should fit, I assume, like a lovejoy. The points of the "V" are barely making contact, and when I try to make a sharp turn, they slip past each other, making a popping sound. The website did not have a price listed. I have to call tomorrow.

You may want to post here in the wanted section before ordering there. Someone on the site may have one and be able to save you some cash. His prices are pretty steep.

There should be notches resembling steps in the points on the pulley side of the clutch and in these "steps" there should be tips made of nylon or some such material, does yours have this? If not then it is likely that this is the problem causing the halves to slip past. Now the question is why is it slipping, because when looking at the 3 that are in my shop, it would appear that the clutch would have to be damaged or broken before the points could bypass. Have you tried grabbing it and giving it a good shaking to see what is happening, is something loose or broken? Try this and let us know what is going on and we will see if we can help.

Sounds kinda like what mine was doing. Either way, I would get the clutch off of the trans. Check what Brushcutter said, also could be the keyway on the clutch shaft being damaged, allowing one half of the clutch to spin on the other.

Might be a good time to get a red clutch spring if you want more torque. Only about 40 bucks from Recreatives.

BTW, if it is the keyway, and the shaft is not too bad, a machine shop can very easily cut you a new keyway.

EDIT: Check out this thread...Jerseybigfoot's info is right on the money as far as dismantling the clutch. It is really easy, just need a 12" piece of thread stock and some washers/nuts. http://www.6x6world.com/forums/trans...h-springs.html

This is a clutch off a Max2. The snapring came off and the cam shifted towards the Trans. I assume yours is the same.

That's exactly how mine looks. Where can I get a snapring? Is it as simple as pressing the two pieces together and replacing the snapring? I guess I need to see a correctly assembled clutch to know what I'm doing.

What size snapring? Can I put a c-clamp on it to compress it together and apply the ring? That would save me some moolah. Thanks for the help.

That looks just like mine! It does have the red spring. How do you go about fixing it?
