Wow, its been a while since I posted!... My 950, which I actully found to be a 945-HK, is almost finished. I got my throttle setup worked out; the R.I. governor spring made a big difference! I finished the rear grille/engine cover hinge and got it on. Pretty much all that's left is to finish my dash and windshield, which I can't do until I get my switches, and wire up my lights and find a fan. I have been riding it around a little bit the last couple of days, (split shift is fun!!), and have noticed a problem. After riding around for a about 15 minutes or so, the engine compartment temp gets up around ~190 degrees, and the engine starts surging. It runs great for 10-15 minutes, then gets rough and starts surging. I was riding today, and when it did this, I shut it off and raised up the rear seat. Once the temperature got down to about ~130 (bottom of the gauge scale) I started it up again. It puffed some black smoke out the exhaust like it was flooded, and when it started it continued to surge when I tried to drive it... Really not sure why this is happening... Any help is greatly appreciated!

whats the rating of your fan. I got an I/C opposed 18 also, and I dont want to run into the same problem. I finally seperated the engine cases yesterday after noticing that the 18 had an incredible lack of power. As soon as i opened the valve cover, exposing one of the pistons, rust, water and fuel poured out. I took of the back plate and that same piston was busted along with the connecting rod. Doing the waiting game until the parts come in from http://www.partstree.com. Im in the process of downsizing my pictures so i can post the progress of the build. Nice looking machine, hope to see ya at Busco!

            The Super 945 has returned!

After sitting in my garage all summer because I didn't have the money or time to finish, my Hustler is finally up and running and completed enough to call "finished"... I finally bit the bullet and bought a set of tires and wheels. I went with ITP Delta wheels and Interco Vampire TSL's (my favorite tire ) in 25x12x12. I got them all mounted up and installed this afternoon. They are awesome. I have them all set to 2.5 to 3 PSI, and there are no clearance issues.

On another note, I need some help with tuing the Comet 94c clutch I have. It just has the stock spring and pucks, and the engagement is around 2500 RPM. At wide open (3600-4000 RPM) it will not close all the way on the belt, so I only get about 8-10 MPH. I need it to engage about 1500-1800 RPM and put a full squeeze on the belt at around 3600, so I assume I need more or heavier pucks. Does anyone know where I can get these or what for certain I need?

Anyway, here's what you really want to see:

            Enjoy!

Thanks! I have a tendency to overbuild stuff... I think that's a good thing though. I hope that once I get my engineering degree, I can bring the Hustler back into production. Even if this means a CNC table and a vacuum mold in my garage... I think that new innovations (and a FACTORY springer option...) would really make for a good selling AATV. The jet pump also needs to make a comeback.
Im about 2 years out from my degree....

I like the guage package. Did you build the machine on the quick detach concept (so you can disconnect the upper body and move it) so that you can service chains/sprockets/axles easier? I think Hustlers were one of the best machines of all times, but the upper body blocks easily getting to the inner workings, especially on a tall machine.

                    HMMMM, Kevlar Hustler........

I was actully thinking more along the lines of carbon fiber, with an aluminum frame. If it ever gets off the ground, I'll need all the help I can get!

I like having all the gauges telling me what my machine is doing.

Yes, it is set up to be very easy to take the upper tub off if I were to break an axle or something like that. With the shorter tub 945 I don't have too much trouble adjusting the chains or changing the oil (especially with the valve drain on the engine), but the middle and front axles would be difficult to get to without removing the upper.

Thanks, the split shifter is one of my favorite parts. I highly recommend the upgrade, it makes it much easier to manuever out of difficult situations (a narrow ditch for example), plus being able to spin around is fun LOL.

Your Hustler looks mean with those Vampire TSL's on it. The TLS's swam fairly decent on Boncrshr's Hustler 950 across the still water in the Sabine river

Thanks! The tailpipe is pretty cool, but it won't be staying.... It's waaaaaayy too loud. I'm going to put at least a glasspack on it. I will keep the rain cap though!

The Vampire TSL is my favorite tire, I also run them on my Honda Big Red and it's just about unstoppable. I have seen that video of Boncrshr's 950 a couple times, I don't know if mine will swim as well though. His had 25x13-9 tires, I decided to go for the 25x12-12 size because it actully has wider tread. Mine will most likely sit lower in the water; I don't know how that will affect the swimming speed. Either way, it's no big deal, I don't plan on doing a whole lot of swimming anyway.

Sorry for the double post Mike, I don't know how to multi-quote over 2 pages.
