Max II red spring upgrade

Iam planning on getting a set of adair tracks for the Max II by the end of january.Prior to putting them on i would like to do the red spring upgrade.Could someone please provide details as to whats involved in changing the spring out.

I think some forum member has a video posted about how to install a red spring on the T-20 clutch? What engine do you have in your Max II?

Tim's test mule Max II was a 16HP machine I believe. It seemed to do fine with the factory clutch set up. The Max IIs are pretty light and might not need to be changed to use the Adair track system. I drove Tim's in creek bottoms and it did fine with factory gearing. Maybe someone with a Max II and Adair tracks can chime in and give their opinion.

Awesome! A Max II with a 23 hp and a red spring on your T-20 clutch will help about 8-10% ?

Ordering the package from adair seems like the easiest solution just bolt on and go as i do not have the track prep package. How much extra ground clearance do you gain with stretching the tub. Ideally i like to have as much clearance as possible as that seems to cause all of my stuck issues. How involved is stretching the tub? Iam not exactly sure the best way to go as of now as i want to do it once and get the most bang for my buck.

I think you will find your Max quite capable with the kit as supplied from Adair without trying to lift your tub.

For those forum members who don't want to modify their lower tub and want to do things the easy way, Adair Argo sales sells 6 aluminum , 10 inch, offset rims and Adair tracks to fit a ' STOCK MAX II '. This requires ' No Modification at all '. This will give you about the same ground clearance as a Max II with 22" inch tires. You'll some find out that your Max II with Adair Argo's tracks and 10" inch wheels and tires is one capable off road machine.

I think Tim at Adair has put a ton of testing into the track kits for the Max II and IV. I had a chance to drive both the test mules and they always went were I wanted them to go. I know when I approached Tim about building my custom tracks for my Max IV with larger tires his first response was why as the track kit he was selling got the machine everywhere it needed to go. I think unless you really want to do gearing, clutch and body mods Tim's kit is the way to go. Should be a factory option in my opinion.

I agree with what you posted Keith. My friends and I always want all we can get out of our machines , and doing some extra work to get the performance that we want is worth it to us. Buying the Adair track kit with aluminum rims and tire combo is the way to go for the majority of forum members. Very few forum members would want to cut the bottom tub off of a running Max II and then buy a new lower tub with out axle holes in it, and then graft it onto the lower Max II tub that they'd just cut off. These people are far and few.
