    hey guys iam a new member from Hamlin wv, close to the capital. I now own my dads maxx 2 that he has had new since 1998. I have adjusted all the chains, they weren't to bad to begin with. The only chain iam having problems with is the rear chain running beside the motor, and clutch. I have the bottom adjuster up enough to get the bottom of the chain pretty snug, but the problem is that all the slack is in the top, I can pull the chain up to the top of the frame rail. Any ideas? I also read about the get to gather at hatfield McCoy trail, prob gonna try and make it to that thx

    Welcome to the site. If you will raise the machine off the ground so that the tires can move freely, the slack can be taken up. That's the easy way. You can also just take your hands and spin the tires while the machine is on the ground. Grip the middle tire with both hands and spin it forward. Then spin the rear tire in reverse and the slack will now be at the bottom.

      thx so much mike, iam gonna do that first thing in the morning. I had it off the ground, but never thought abut rotating the tires to put the slack on the bottom. the manual never mentioned that lol thx for the tip

        Mike I tried every way you mentioned but chain slack is still on top? maybe try sitting it on ground and rolling it? oh well never give up I guess,iam gonna see if I can get the the tensioner to drop down and restart the process ill let you know how it goes thx

          Something just doesn't sound right. Did you have the transmission in neutral while you were trying to rotate the tires opposite directions? Also, maybe you do have the chain tight enough? You don't want them real tight, ideally you want an 1/8" movement up and 1/8" movement down as well. Since the chain tensioner is on the bottom, there will be some slack on the top. The Max II chain adjusters ratchet so there isn't much fine tuning available. Sometimes you have to leave them a little loose until they wear a little more. Then you can tighten to the next position. When you do that, the chain is usually too tight for a little while until it wears some more. Rinse and repeat.

            oh maybe I missed something from your first post. make sure iam right here, its raised up, in neutral then iam going to rotate the mid tire forward while at the same time rotate the rear tire opposite direction which would be to the rear.thx

              That is correct, you were doing that the right way. Measure how much slack you have with a tape measure so that we can tell just how bad it is. Put the tape measure in one location then push the top of the chain down. Take a reading on where the top of the chain is pushed to. Then pull it up and take another reading. Take the difference and post that so we can tell just how much slack you have.

                Mike i have about a 11/4 play there is know way possible to rotate the tires in opposite directions when they are mated to a Chain? By the way it video's r great
