Parts are definitely high and that's true really regardless of where you buy them; whether you go through RI, RR, any other dealer or an independent shop. The best way to save some money is to post a wanted ad here and hope that someone has what you are looking for used. Maybe give that a try.

I totally agree. Tacking the sprockets is a bad idea and could cost you both the sprocket or axle if you can't grind the tack off perfectly. Who wants to be grinding metal inside the tub anyways!
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

I had already welded the sprocket, because it had front to rear playand that i would need a new axle..but the guy who welded it used a 110 volt mig welder.my friend said that it didnt hold because it need to be welded with 220 volt welder because the 110 doesnt get hot enough. after the sprocket shifted again i noticed that i could just knock the weld off pretty easy with a hammer.

Maybe welding lessons are in order for you fellas,as spot welding is the only way the sprockets will not move EVER. Steve

I know how to weld. The fact is there is frame flex and the splined sprockets are meant to have a little play in them to allow for this. Maybe you should do more research before you post as if you are the expert. Your weld on idea is one of those stupid things I find occasionally on machines I buy that makes me use all those 4 letter references to the townie that sold me the pile of parts.

guarantee I can weld better that you but anyways. its the simple fact that I am smart enough not to weld sprockets onto something that eventually will need to come out and have bearings replaced enough said!

Must have hit a nerve with you guys that spend all day on the forum giving youselves positive pets and kudos and high fives.Thinking outside the box isn't for everyone and true mechanical skills are more than being Right! As for more research on the subject--45yrs. as an industrial machinist----well it speaks for itself.By the way don't buy machines that have weld on sprockets and you won't have the need for potty mouth, use your head. We are here to help people fix and maintain machines PROPERLY. Being a machinist as not the same as a mechanic and even most mechanics don't know how these machines operate before they get their hands on more than 1 or 2 of them. I have owned close to 20 machines which I have rebuilt or stripped down and parted out due to people that "know better" making mods that they shouldn't have. It's probably best that you don't attack forum members skills that know more than you do about these machines. I know you have owned an entire machine for less than a year. You should be reading more and not ridiculing people that do know more than you. Feel free to ignore our advise and have fun wearing out your sprockets as they don't have the required play in them.
