I've had a sample plug in old tub section for demonstration for years. The same plug is at least 6 years old now and has probably been removed 200 times. I also tape a pair of new plugs under the dash with duct tape. Iv been in the field before remembering the plugs. Iv manufactured aluminum screw in plugs. They worked good but were time consuming. Tried baitwell plugs, they pull out in the brush. If the factory holes are tight the BP-3/4 plug works great. With practice they are easy to remove and reuse.
MSAFI65 showed me his technique mentioned here and I've not had a problem since. Small flat head screwdrive just lifting the outer edge then pushed past the inner lip of the plug and a quick flip of the wrist and they are out. Done this 10 times or more now with 0 damage....

Work in progress. Front windshield and canvas enclosure for winter use.

That link above isn't correct, the 's' is missing. Here's a working link to the BP series of plugs.

Caplugs - Button Plugs with Recessed-Type Heads - Caplugs

The problem is... as mentioned you only need to order a mere 5,000 plugs.

Here's a place we order from all the time... Tessco. (We're a two-way radio dealer) A couple that would be like the ones in the above link: (At a much more reasonable price/quantity)

        For a 5 pack:

        For a 25 pack:

          Hey buggyman,
Did the mud on you tires turn blue? Just curious. Keeps happening to my brothers truck. Guess its some sediment reaction to the rubber on the tires. Real weird.

Thanks for correcting the link that I posted. I should have tested it first... Oh well. The vendor on E-Bay sold the correct replacement plugs for $7.99 per hundred. I'm satisfied, and...we've had a good discussion on the lowly drain plug.

Thanks L8Braker. I will go to the site and order some tonight. It's great to have a site like this to refer to for finding things. Thanks for your help.

I got a 100 from capplugs.com several months back, they work, but they do take longer to install as the gap on the ones I got was tighter than the gap on the Recreatives plugs. On the upside, they don't pop out as easy as the factory plugs at inopportune moments.

Hi guys, I use my Max almost exclusively for fishing and get the three quarter inch rubber expansion plugs from any auto parts store and replace the nut with a wing nut. I've never had a problem with these they work great. Sometimes they need to be coaxed out with a pliers if you over tighten the wing nut though.
What it lacks in ground clearance it makes up for with traction.

One nice thing about my scrambler body is the thick fiberglass.I used a 3/4" npt pipe tap and put threads right in the body holes.I now have 3/4" npt cpvc pipe plugs screwed in.I use pipe dope on the .25 cent home depot pipe plugs and they never leak or fall out!

I used those also. But using a wingnut didnt even cross my mind. Whats the trick to get them to tighten all the way down? Mine spins after so many turns?

I put oil one the threads and only put the plug in three quarters of the way. Keep in mind that the plug expands on the inside of the tub if you go too tight then the plug distorts and it's hard to reuse. If it spins on you then might have to hold the outside of the plug with a pliers while you turn the wingnut. I also taper the front of the rubber plug a little on the bench grinder so it goes in easier. I hope this helps you.
