Does recreatives sell a service manual for a max iv 950t. I would like to change my clutch spring from a green to a red and would like specific instructions. Also, has anyone ever installed a high speed clutch from richards relics in a max iv 950t.

    Hey Sparrotte,

I just changed my clutch spring out using this thread as a guide...

Check out Jersey Bigfoot's post..it is right on the money. It was a very easy swap...

I can't speak for the high speed clutch, but I do have a red spring clutch installed in my max 950-T, and I can tell you it will make a big difference in keeping your Max in the power band in mud or any other power (robbing)demanding situations. I couldn't imagine being with out the red spring in the places I take my Max and the demands I place on my engine and power train. It's a lot of work to change the clutch spring but I believe that the results are well worth the effort.

You will need a vise and a 12" piece of thread stock.....be sure to check out the thread above, as it has all of the pertinent info.

Hi guys, i sure can take a little more low end torque on my Argo Vanguard because we got a lot of swamp, mud and hill climb around here... Does any compagny made a ''RED '' spring for Argo... If i understand well this spring goes on the transmission... Can it be put on the engine clutch instead...

Ok..just wanted to make sure you read it, as there is spring tension involved! With mine, it was not necessary to heat it, as it came right out. My keyway was wallowed out and I got a machine shop to cut me a new one, so pay attention to your key/keyway and make sure it is a good fit when going back together.

Also, before assembly, I cleaned everything and lubricated with a dry lubricant.

Martwell, I don't know about your '85 model, but the later models have an index-able spring, IE there are multiple anchor positions that change spring wrap tension and adjust the function of the driven clutch, the one on the trans. You could find someone familiar with your model.

                    low end power

Boncrshr,I'm hoping mine comes off as easy as yours. My max is a 2004 and iswell maintained. What kind of dry lubricant did you use and would it be wise to use never seize on the shaft befor reinstalling.

I just used some dry lube that I got from Advance Auto, as far as never sieze, I don't think you will need any, but I will defer that to the brain trust?

                          low end power

I received my red spring on Wedsday and have installed it. I went for a ride todayand was quite impressed. i was able to climb a steep sandy hill witch I couldn't do before. The low end power was much better shifting down or staying in low longer when starting from a stop. It was well worth the effort that it took to change the spring.
