max sprocket conversion question

so I am upgrading my #40 sprockets to #50,my #40 sprockets are 26 tooth and the circumference measurement is the same as a 20 tooth #50 sprocket.All the posts I read say a max uses a 22 tooth #50 axle sprocket,my machine is a max in a scrambler body and I dont think I could use 22 tooth sprockets because the chain might rub the scrambler body underneath the sprockets,is there any issues with me using 20 tooth #50 sprockets instead of 22 tooth,and why the diameter difference in a 26 tooth #40 sprocket to a #50 22 tooth sprocket?Richard relics told me my machine is probably a 1969 or 1970 due to the sprocket sizes so I dont knowledge if sprocket diameters changed in a certain year.

I would focus on the diameter of the sprockets the number of teeth will follow. If you keep the same diameters you will get the same speeds and the same ratios.

The only ratio u need to worry about is the t20 to the axle or idler shaft .
The axle sprockets that run chain between need to be all the same size, eg front to mid/ mid to rear.
Use the largest diameter sprockets u can fit in
The only reason u get concerned with axle sprocket size is to allow for HP and RPM of the chain . There are charts that exist for this . 99% 6x6 need a lot larger chain.
The Muddox uses double no60 chain
