My old Max, what year is it?

I bought a Max from the 70s. It is serial # 2732 with 295 JLO. I would like to upgrade the motor with a 18hp vanguard and other improvements to the chassis. Is the original motorplate okay to use? Any help greatly appreciated. Rich
