  • Max IV Rear Winch Install

Fellow Max IV Owners, I would like to install a 2500# winch on the rear for just incase needed. I am not pulling trucks or logging, just for emergencies getting un-stuck. I would like some information on what type of backer to install and location if possible. Pictures would be great. Any help is deeply appreciated, from a new owner who needs help. Thanks

I've put some thought into this, I have a 4,000# winch sitting in the corner waiting for me to have some spare time. My plan is to mount it to the body band to keep it high and dry. The rear hitch plate is way too low to be practical and I didn't want to add any new holes below the water line, the body band seems to be the most practical location and I will not need a backer plate as my body band is one piece.

Moldman, I think I've talked to you before if I'm not mistaken. I too installed a 2500 pound remote control winch. It's a Badlands remote control winch from Harbor Freight. For the backing I used 1/4" plate steel. Can't remember the dimensions but make it as big as you can covering the upper body and lower tub as far down as possible. I had to put a slight bend in it to follow the contour of the lower tub. This plate is only drilled and bolted to the upper body as to not drill below the water line. Hope this helps.
What it lacks in ground clearance it makes up for with traction.
