I was looking into buying my first 6x6. I found one for $500. I have determined that it is a Max IV. But it has a Chaparral engine in it. What years had that engine. Also the engine is stuck, so is it worth buying it or no. What would the value of it if it is in decent condition.

Way too may variables to say if it is worth saving the machine, but at least it could be parted out. A good t-20 trans could be worth your investment.
As for the engine, I'm not a fan of the 2 strokes. The torque of a 4 stroke makes for a much better trail machine. That machine is probably a late 70's vintage. If memory serves me right the 2 strokes were gone by 1989, but little else changed till mid 90's.
I've said it many times, but few people tend to listen: The cheap machines are rarely cheap. When you add up all the list of things they need they usually cost more than buying a good running ready to go machine. Sometimes however you can get a good deal.

In the old days you could call Recreatives and get a ton of info on mfg date, dealer it was sold to, etc. Still think it's sad that the Max lineup is gone.
