2000 Max II exhaust

Good afternoon
I have been running the Max II with the muffler inside the engine housing, do I need to get it outside the tube? it gets pretty hot in there and I am afraid of making the plastic soft.

Is this a muffler you installed yourself or is this the interior muffler offered from the factory? The factory interior muffler included head shields on the upper and lower tubs to help keep the plastic safe. If it's a muffler you installed yourself, I would create a heat shield to protect the tub even if it is just a shield spaced away from and welded to the muffler. You could also wrap it with exhaust wrap to keep the heat down but if you use it in water a lot, that can speed up the rusting process when it gets wet.

I changed my muffler from the external unit to an internal one and just purchased the factory heat shields. Here's a picture of the lower shield so that you can see what it looks like if you don't have one:

I used header wrap on mine and louvered the engine cover and have no issues with heat build up and I have a 2000 Max II,

I bought the heat shield from Recreatives Industries many years ago when they were still in business. You could make something similar without much of an issue.
