Been wondering about the status of the new Hodge engine.. figured Whipper was thinking about exhaust. Guess fashion delayed him.. Going to be nice!

                • Another labor of love Very elegant. I agree, we would starve doing that for a living.

Although been a mechanic, didn't fully understand exhaust theory 'till reading up on the 'net in the last year. There's vacuum pulses in the exhaust, and having that pulse at the exhaust valve when it opens is a good thing(except for the 2 stroke guys). I was stuffing a shop rag up my tailpipe as the argo was idling.. I let go of it and it disappeared up the pipe

                        • Nice job whipper, that is one good looking set up. I am building a 54 ci briggs for the hustler, with a little help form Al at performance, and I have been thinking about an exhaust. Just wondering where you found the glasspacs and the head flanges?

                            • That's the new big block briggs family.. upper 20's to mid 30's hp. There's one for sale for $1300, but it's a vertical shaft engine.

                              • Thanks for the info, not a bad cost for a tuned exhaust. I am using the briggs big block for the build. Factory bore 3.366" , stroke 3.071". It was a factory experimental engine rated at 33hp, and I picked it up on e-bay for a sweet price (new for $1150), could not pass that one up. Al has all the goodies to make a 50+ hp engine; billet rods, high comp pistons, cam, and he suggested the Mikuni dual 30 mm carbs. You don't have enough hp unless you are breaking parts, right?
By the way, that springer is one nice machine. Love the sound of that v-twin!
