  • I Love My MAX

Well, I have had my MAX since last Spring, and I love it. It has helped with trail maintenance for the snowmobile club and been great to explore those places a sled will not go this Winter. Some picts:

An abandoned road that can only be accessed in Winter:

The end of the road for me because...

... the bridge was too narrow:

Snow was deep, but the MAX had no problems:

    Pulling culverts for the trails:

Yes, factory track kit on there. I got lucky, when I bought it (a 2004) it had the track kit on it. They work really well, and I'm glad to have the factory kit with all its reinforcements.

                  Max Iv bad in snow

I own a Max IV and there is no way I could go in that deep of snow without getting struck.I also have tracks and the max really sucks in snow unless it's hard. The belly pan justs wants to plow and get hung up.

Mine plows too, but it seems to not be an issue. Maybe your snow is heavier than here. Is your drive system binding?

the belly pan ends up on top of snow and the tracks just spin. It's alot of digging and winching which doesn't make it worth taking if snow is deep at all.

                        How deep was the snow?

How deep was the snow? what do you mean about the drive train binding? Did you get stuck at all? I could have never went through that much snow as in your pictures. I'm really disappointed in my Max IV in the snow.

The snow I was on was about 3 feet deep, though fairly dense. If I stepped out of the MAX, I sank up to my waist in some spots, in others I could stand up and only sink in a bit.

By binding, I mean is there anything wrong that could be sapping power. My machine in neutral can be pushed by just me, and I'm not a big guy. Can you push yours? I've had mine sunk before, but that was pulling a heavy weight. In soft and med. density snow (not heavy snow), I can stop and go as I please. My machine is really good in snow, so I'm wondering why yours is not. Where are you located?

I'm located in upstate NY.Last week I had to leave in in the woods overnight because it was so buried I had to get ramps to put under tracks to get out. The temp got in the mid 40's and the trails got soft. I wouldn't even think of going in 3 ft of snow.Probably anything over a ft would be questionable. I think the problem is the clearence.once the bellypan is on too of snow the tracks just spin.
