That's one big power plant!!!!!! Nice work there WhipperI have got to see where you put the radiator!
This one is water cooled?Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

Like Jeff said, they are used on all kinds of high performance off road applications. In rock crawling they are also used to limit the amount of articulation that the suspension provides.
As for the looks, I don't see how they look tacky.
Tricky to explain, but if you take the tire and the shock off, you are left with the A-arms attached to the bearing carrier. And when the A-arms and the bearing carrier are still attached to each other, they really won't go any farther than about 15-20 degrees down. In my case, we are using 2 ball joints on each A-arm to attach the bearing carrier. Either way, it seems when you attach two arms to something that pivots or swings up and down they only have so much play or travel. When seting your shock up you keep the play or travel in mind and use it so your A-arms are your strap. You also save money, because you don't have to buy a strap. And technically a little more light weight if you want to talk high performance.

A family that plays together stays together
As the posts imply, at the cost of shocks and other components, I run straps.
I have them on my drag car in lieu of snubbers on the front end, I had them on my buggy. And they will be on my aatv when complete.
Pretty doesn't matter when function requires the use of an item.
Except for ladies safety apparel of course
Have a great day all.Bruce

I had to think about it for a minute. We can't do both with two ball joints on top. Correct?

Isn't R & D fun?
Bridget
I enjoy the R & D. I have certainly learned a lot and I feel more confident about what we're building. Our first one won't be perfect, but it will be a big accomplishment for us.

I realized a looong time ago when we were dating, that if I was ever going to see you much, I better like hanging out & working in the garage with you.
