  • Question on seats??

Does anyone know the proper size for the plywood base & what do you suggest I use for the foam & vinyl? What thickness have people been using for the foam? Took a project for a BigMax from rebuild to restoration...$$

Not sure of the Big max, but My original foams for the Swampfox are 3" thick.
I would do the ply about 1/2 shorter & narrower than your foam widths.
My foam bottoms are approximately 12" wide. Hope this helps.

There are two articles in the how-to section that cover seats (pun intended )

      Make your own ATV Seat

Bronco Seat for your Six Wheeler

Thanks guys for all the help. The "how to" article was especially helpful for dimensions.

          Hi:
As a marine guy first and foremost, I look for what works there since water is the common enemy of a lot of materials. Seafoam from Defender is a good closed cell foam (This means it WONT absorb water, even if the cover is ripped and it gets doused, sat on while wet etc...)

          (From Defender's Site)
Our popular unicellular flotation foam is non-water absorbent preventing mildew, foul odors and deterioration. A comfortable, semi-firm foam with a buoyancy of approximately 50- lbs./cu. ft. Foam sheets are easily cut with a razor knife for do-it-yourselfers

I plan on using this for a few seats, and when I figure out how much I need/will get, I'll put a post, if a couple of us locally need some, $$$ can be saved since it's sold in 4' X 6' sheets. It's not real soft so it'll absorb shock, not let you sink to nearly the base and then without any cushioning left you'd feel every bump like if soft foam is used. Ride in the bow of a boat in rough water on the stuff and you'll see how good it is (Boats don't have suspension either. And at speed, trust me, Water is HARD

This is the thicknesses that they carry
