Coleman Golf Cart Heater is a good idea... but everyone was talking about useing a blower to blow heat from the motor conpartmont though a ductwork so at this point i was thinking my idea was like the same idea just alittle hotter with the idea for keeping the winshild clear plus keeping the hole thing worm... I was checking metal box about 15.00 to make your own.. 30.00 prebuilt metal box... Fan/blower about 15.00 if you want a hard blowing add 20.00 ducting lows is about 7.00... makeing your dash wood i think would work best plus you can remove it in summer about 5.00 (mfd/ or plywood)a slector so you can go from winshild to floor home made is about 15.00 (not hard to make) switch to trun it (on/off) 3.99 autozone... price of you staying worm and your buddy's freezing there ass off (priceless)...

I'm in eastern Canada and believe me it can get cold here but I don't find it cold in the cab especially when the machine is working harder, as in snow. The biggest problem is windshield fogging up.Heat comes into the cab from around the sticks and the body tube on the left(muffler) side is warm too.Any extra heat recovered from the engine compartment would be plenty.Keeping the windshield clear and a workable windshield design would cover it for me.The wiper just isn't as easy as an argo as the way the Max is set up with the cab it would foul a through- the- frame mount at the top.It might mount on the bottom but I don't know how far the glass is set in the frame and bottom mount might foul folding the windshield on hot days(a nice feature).

I have been in the automotive parts business for over 35 years. In the old days, VW beetles and the other VW air cooled vehicles used to use a similar system as a heating system for the vehicle Heating Your VW
Later an optional gas heater system was designed where one a ignition coil fired auxiliary heater that ran off of gasoline (delivered instantaneous heat) was made available (though became hard to find in the US). One of the issues with either system involved the potential for carbon monoxide poisoning should there be any rust through in the exhaust system. The fact that the ignition coil heater was mounted in the front of the driver also caused concern. I remember people would buy them in Canada when they were unavailable in the US. TheSamba.com :: Perfection Gas Heater for the VW Beetle
All of these blower retrofits that you are describing should supply some level of supplementary heat (though not as efficiently as a liquid-cooled motor where you can route an auxiliary fluid loop to a front mounted heater core).
However, I would be concerned that someone retrofitting such a system on an enclosed cab may be potentially setting up a dangerous environment in the cockpit. Even if you have an intact exhaust system that does not have any holes in it shrouded with an air box of sort, you still run the risk of picking up exhaust fumes from the air around the engine compartment when the vehicle is idling/stationary for a prolonged period of time and blowing to the cab.
I am not trying to be an alarmist, but I do believe some consideration should be given to the safety of this design in a closed cockpit setting.

Your concerns are indeed valid, Toynut.A thread similar to this has circulated the past year or two.Last year one poster suggested a carbon monoxide detector for the enclosed cab whether there is a mod or even left stock.A good idea.Carbon monoxide is sneaky and is to be taken seriously at all times.

We had some pretty rough weather along with a couple of inches of rain here New Year's Eve. The temp was in the low 50s, so when the weather blew out, jut before dark, I took out my Max II for a few spins in the water & mud. While playing around, I remembered this discussion & stuck my hand at the front of the tub under my left arm. There really was some warm air coming out there! The right side wasn't so lucky. When I put it back inside, I did a little poking around. I found this blower (Blower fan 3 x 3 12 volt new - eBay (item 160465265892 end time Jan-03-11 09:23:12 PST)) on eBay & I think one of these, mounted just in front of the exhaust with a flexible duct run thru the body & maybe even ducted around in front would throw a little heat just about right. There's even an eyball vent available at an aircraft supplier for less than $20 that would fit the 3" ducting.

Looks dangerous for use inside an atv. He said it took 3 hours to build as well. Even with free parts factor in how much you make an hour. At $9hr wage it costs $27 for the unit and still has a pretty steady draw on the battery. I would think a box around the exhaust with a similar fan hooked up to some duct work coming off the box would be better and safer. But thats just me.l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!
