  • Max IV hopping / shaking violently

    Hi,

For two year my Max IV has run perfectly. I've never had any problems with it or had to work on it.

Now when I drive it, it starts "hopping" or "shaking" violently.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? What could be the causes?

It does it in a straight line as well as turning.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Scott

Check the drive belt.Does the belt squeal?

Also, is there a flat tire or a bent axle?

If you have frozen water in a tire it will do the same thing.

Depending on the tires and amount of inflation, they can flat spot from sitting. Best thing is to drive it more often!

            Thanks,

I looked at the axles and they don't seem to be bent. I'll double check the tire pressure. I'm stumped.

            Thanks for the help.

Its likely a non inflated, or low tire. You can verify by putting the machine on a lift or blocks and observing the tires, if they are low you will see, if you see tires colliding, it may be a bent axle. Hopefully its just a low tire.

Had it happen, and it can happen overnight in cold weather. Really had me scratching my head till I figured it out!

Lift the machine off the ground remove the tires and run it. If it shakes after the tires are off it is not the tires. While you are removing the wheels the problem may show itself. If this just started during cold weather as mentioned earlier ice may have formed in one or more of the wheels. Isolate one item at a time.

This would be my starting point.

My vote is the belt. Ever replaced it yet? Check for burned spots on the sides... Does the shaking increase with speed?

I'm with JerseyBigfoot, a friend had a tire half full of water/mud and when it froze it would shake your teeth out. Though a flat spot but found half of one tire was extra hard like it was over-inflated. BINGO!

Have to jack it up and run one side at a time. I would think that would narrow it down. Then concentrate on the side that is giving you problems. Just guessing here but is it possible That your chain links are binding? IF it doesn't turn out to be a tire I'ld look at the chains next. If it does it ALL the time I would have to think it is something between the motor and the T-20.

I inspected the belt. It looks like brand new.

I took it for a spin. It shook like crazy again and then it stopped doing it. I thougth great! It fixed itself! hahaha

I drove it straight for about 400 feet and it ran perfect........and then I turned. After I turned it did it again!

Would the tranny or the clutches be messed up? I have never worked on my Max and so I am really ignorant on what could be wrong.

I don't think it would be ice in the tire or a flat spot or it wouldn't have stopped doing it.

It seems like the problem works itself out, and then when I turn, it binds up again or something. My chain is lubed. Could a brake be sticking? ???????????????

Is it shaking / hopping up and down? Like the others mentioned, jack it up off the ground and run it slowly to watch for problems. Or, while you are driving slowly, lean over both sides and look at all of the tires to see if one is hopping compared to the other. Like the other
