Based upon the high engine operating temperatures in AZ even though the temperature was mild, I modified both the cold air to the engine and added a cold air intake for the carb.

        Looking good!!!!!!
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

Marc, do you think jetting it a little richer help with the engine run cooler at all? I really don't know too much about the jetting in those Nikki carbs on the Vanguards, but I'd be interested in seeing how it could be done. I think mine in my Hustler BIGFOOT could be a tad richer because of the free flowing exhaust I built for it.

JP you are correct. The Al Hodge engine is fitted with larger jets and after discussion with Al , he recommended increasing the mains by .002. Whipper recommend the same thing to reduce the part throttle stumble.
At some point I would like to return to AZ so we are taking all the precautions.

We can take it out for a test ride. It's been hanging aroud the 100deg. mark.
This is the only place to test that cold air intake.

It's tempting but I have put a budget back together. The truck and trailer are ready.

Jets are the same as some Holley carb jets.

Is it starting better or have you re-jetted yet?

Starts better now. The original pulse hose was kinked as it was too soft and not reinforced. Probably not sufficient fuel pressure at cranking. I will be testing it later today befor I open the jets up. Should be able to monitor the engine temp with the oil temp probe in the crankcase and the Digitron gauge.

I replaced mine with new reinforced line just because of that reason prior to it's first start. Was kinked also, but that is my backup system. I ran the electric fuel pump as the primary and pumped through the pulse pump. You were a very busy fellow prior to the launch of the ride. Glad to hear it is better.

Went trail riding with George at the farm in Hancock, NY. What a great trail machine the word is "smooth". No dust but a few bugs, spiders, webs, and salamanders. There was a reported incident with a Rattlesnake and a lawnmower, the lawnmower won. Other than that no other Copperhead issues. Highest crankcase oil temp measured was 209 deg f.
