  • well my first 6x6 ride

these things are pretty dang fun i finally got my amphicat up and riding i dont think its adjusted 100% right but it works...

so i was ripping a field up and notice i was bouncing a lot more.......

got off and one of my front wheels fell off.. it was pretty funny... all i gotta do is put a new bolt threw the hub and axle..

but all in all i cant wait to get back over there on the field and ride it again..

The first ride is awesome,With a little practice you will be amazed at what your machine can do.To me the coolest Part is getting one of these machines running and bringing it back to life.

Congratulations.....a little tweeking on the clutches and you'll be ready to join us on a group ride.
It's been a while since the last one, and with deer season most woods are off limits. Maybe by late Dec. or Jan. we can get another one together. Here's the last one.

broke the same axel bolt again.... not sure of what grade bolt it was could i have other issues? the holes a little sloppy for the bolt so the next idea is to drill it out to the next size?

and i assume my main drive belt aint adjusted right.. there arnt any adjustments so i took the motor off and slotted the motor plate some.. and that still didnt get it enought i think its time for a belt.. anyone have any clue what size belt i need for this thing..

the throttle has to be reved up to far to get it to start moving you guys are all slow cruising i gotta move like 10mph to move like that...

If it has a 2 stroke in it you need to rev it more than you would with a 4 stroke.
2 strokes are much faster and you should feel the clutch shift into high gear once you get moving.
If the clutches are slipping it will just rev and move slow.
            Check out the video here

The drive belt should be a bit loose when its not running.

yea its a 2 cycle motor but its seems like the belt is a bit to long and not wide enough.. the clutch has to close maybe an 1/8 inch or more, before it hits the belt on the primary drive

It could be worn on the sides.
How is it fitting on the secondary?

Run a straight edge across the clutches and check the belt deflection.

The belt will appear loose but thats normal.

mines about the same as the picture you shown for the secondary, but i thought i read somewhere that the belt should be sticking slight out of it, i havnt check it yet but by eye it looks to big, it rubs on the motor plate, well i can tell it does because it has a bear spot..

thanks.. id like to get something that grabs sooner because id like to be able to get the gf to ride on it.. is that possible? wider bet?
                  the pic is my setup.

Mc master sells a shaft coupling 4 bolt for coupling together 2 shafts. I wonder if this clamped over where your bolt goes thru and then drill it and the axle for the next larger bolt and use a grade 8 with a nyloc nut. If this would work you would be strengthning the area you are drilling larger. This is like a split shaft collar only 4 times as wide. Look in the Mcmasters online catalogue under shaft couplings.

Looks like your belt is too long.
Can you slide the engine to tighten it a little?
The belt should deflect about 1 1/2 inches at the most.

Your belt should NOT be recessed into the secondary, It should be flush with the top or slightly higher. You also need to remove the rust from your clutches if you want a belt to last. If your belt is worn on the sides, it will sink into the secondary too far and you won't be able to move the motor enough to tighten it. Read this: ATV and Snowmobile Belts - by Dayco
Measure your belts width....it should probably be 1 3/16"or 1 1/4" You may need to find a snowmobile scrapyard near you and try a couple belts to find the right fit. Another problem with the "slip clutch" type systems is how hard it is to replace the belt.
                        Good luck!

Thanks for the tips guys the rust ain't there anymore that was a pic of before riding it...

I'm gonna take a peice of rope and try to get my measurements and order a new belt

What's the perfferd brand of belt around here?

This is the belt i used
HP3010 - Polaris Dayco HP (High Performance) Belt. Fits 72-82 low power Polaris Snowmobiles. | Snowmobile Parts | MFG Supply
On the bazooo if the belt rides on the outside of the secondary it rubs on the floor.
If the belt is too short it will try to move the machine at idle and make it harder to shift the trans.

Here's your problem: Your belt may be the right length, but by slipping deeper into the secondary, it effectively makes it longer.
Take a sewing (cloth) tape measure and wrap around the outside of your secondary, and the inside hub of your primary. Do this twice, once at the minimum adjustment on the motor mount and once on the max adjustment. The cloth tape will bend at a tighter radius than the belt, so these two measurements will be a tiny bit small, but an average will get you in the ball park. Also measure the outside of your current belt, if it is in the middle of your other two measurements....go with that, and assume it was the original, and is correct.
Brand is not important, but you will need a current number in order to be cross referenced. Find it in this chart ATV and Snowmobile Belts - by Dayco
